Default ITR not warming up.....

It is damn cold out here, but you would think driving for an hour would allow the car to warm up.....

I drive for an hour and the needle is still at or under the "C" line.

The only way the car will warm up is if I sit in traffic barely moving.

Anyone experience the same thing or know why this would be happening.....

The damn heater only throws out semi warm air.

thanks

Straight water or coolant/water mix (question posed in Ken R0cker's cold-weather thread)?

that's what i would assume. make sure that you are running the proper mixture of antifreeze and water as well.

After an hour of driving, use your bare hand and touch the radiator return horse. If it is very hot, chances are the thermostat is stuck. Good luck.

same here.. replace thermostat and make sure you have the right mix..

b18c-rsi, did your heat ever work? if so, then probably one of the two things talked about is wrong on yours too.. if it never worked, it could be one of those, or that the wire on the temp slider came off where it hits near/on the fanbox and you should check that as well.. or it could be inside the panel at the switch.. my old CRX did that once..

well....its an 85 dx that i just bought back in september. I have no idea if the heat was working previous to that or not! All i know is that the caR is damn cold even if i let it run 20 min before going anywhere....it throws a tiny bit of heat but once i start driving it just gets cold again . Thank you for the suggestions though...

I just got the CRX heat running again, so happy. Takes a bit to warm up, but when it does, watch out

lol. I guess I'm the lucky one here. My GS-R (beater) had similar woes before it got really cold out. I installed a new OEM thermostat and problem solved. I even had a nice warm 65 degree day to replace it

yep.. two separate cables.. one for the temp, one for the blower.. I had bought mine in the summer and never realized until winter because it was stuck on cool..

You didn't mention if you checked your coolant... But I agree with everyone else that you need a new thermostat...

It is probably the thermostat stuck open.

What happens is that the ECU thinks that car is running hot soo it does a hella lot to keep it cooled down when in fact it is not hot at all.

Just happened to my GF's neon.

would this cause the motor to not idle properly? at times causing it to stutter and shut off at idle?

No. If anything it would idle higher trying to warm the engine up.

My Car does the exact same thing. My car can be run for ever and the temp gauge stays at C. I get out and look at the hoses and the top radiator hose is hot as hell, and the bottom radiator hose is cold. If i let my car sit at idle for lik 15 min after driving the temp gauge will start to climb and will reach the normal temp. after awhile. The bottom radiator hose gets warm when i do this. Whats the problem.

Well, umm, MAYBE the head would stay cooler, and MAYBE the spark plugs would foul up... err... well...

I doubt it!
