Default overheating but no heat in the car?

this is weird.

My gf is driving my hybrid EF and called me this am to tell me the car started overheating on the way to work. She turned on the heat to try to cool it off, but no hot air came out.

She's at work now, and the car has been fine before.

I do have the hondata IM gasket (RACE version) installed and it's been fine for over a year with no problems.

I suspect maybe the unseasonably cold weather (well below freezing) has made a leak or popped a hose or something...

But I thought that hot air would come out of the vents if the car was overheating. Unless maybe with NO coolant in the vehicle it won't even circulate the motor's heat?

Sorry for the stupid post - it's just frustrating to get a call like this while you're driving to work.

Anyway, I thought I saw a thread in this forum a couple days ago with a similar situation - but I can't find it.....

Have you checked your coolant lately? Same thing happened to my Nissan Bluebird some years ago, engine overheated and no heat at all. Turned out to be not enough antifreeze in the coolant, it tested to -7 degrees while it had been -15 outside the last few days. Luckily I just had to park it overnight in a heated garage and replace the coolant, no blown hoses or popped freeze plugs.

yeah.. i bet that's it..

if enough coolant isn't cirulating through the heater core, you get no heat..

You've lost coolant. A hose probably popped off.
