That's the classic scenario for a motorcycle accident. READ AND HEED! Intersections are very dangerous, put a car on your left when entering if possible.
So sorry for all involved in that mess.

yeah you're right. that tire looks pretty new. he was 28. i wonder if he was a new rider? 80mph thru an intersection - maybe he was just on crack?

Damn i hate reading this stuff. It makes me not want to get a bike. But I think the number of fatalaties on bikes drops dramatically when you obey the speed limit. Obeying it is the only problem.
Your right, that looks like a stock bike. It sucks, but too many people go out and buy a new bike and think they're superman. And 80mph wouldnt do that to a bike, the car probably never saw him coming
To everyone who gets a sportbike, the FIRST major mod you should make is an exhaust, performance aside. Most stock bikes are almost whisperquiet. A motorist will be more likely to hear you driving beside them, which is a lifesaver if you happen to be in their blindspot. I find that a quick blip of the throttle is all it takes to get noticed most of the time.
The left hand turn accident like said above is still one of the biggest dangers on a bike so be aware. ride safe everyone.

Wow. I own a bike (Kawasaki VN750), and I'm appalled at the responses automatically blaming the car, when the initial post clearly states that the bike was doing 80mph through an intersection. Now, I don't know about where you live, but where I am, and all of the myriad states I've been through, no where have I seen speed limits above 75mph, and none of those speed limits have been on roads with intersections! Howzabout thinking about the fact that the motorcyclist was being an ***? No, he probably didn't deserve to die for his stupidity, but we've all seen the jerkoffs on sportbikes riding the line between cars on the interstates and speeding down the shoulder when traffic is moving slower than they'd like to be going. As motorcyclists, we need to be responsible enough riders to realize that our vehicles are more difficult to see, and to ride defensively and anticipate that the cars around us are going to do the stupidest thing possible. And if you're doing 80mph on a street with intersections, you're asking for serious trouble, no matter what kind of vehicle you are operating. The problem is that the consequences of an accident while on a bike are a hell of a lot higher than the consequences of a car accident.

er ah yeah, thanks for the edgemocation. I think your opinion about everyone blameing the car is completely off the wall BTW.
Anyways, it's nice to see a female troll through here every once in a while

I'm half thinking of selling my Vulcan and getting a sportier bike, though the Vulcan is a nice fit for me -- it's easy for me to reach the ground!!
Unfortunately, the only sportbike I've found so far that is as comfortable is a Ducati
which is not exactly in my price range. Karen
yep SB are made for 32" inseam equiped folks. Your issue is very common for girls or so it seems.
There is nothing I find more appealing than a girl who can ride a SB.
But I have seen ONLY ONE in my life.

Which Duc? You can get used Supersports and Monsters for pretty cheap these days... but neither of those are particularly comfortable.

There is a ~28yo girl here who is not only cute and hetero, but also a fulltime Ducati mechanic *and* the owner of a custom black 916 w/many mods. I think every male sportbike rider in town is in love with her.
