Is the GS-R catback any better than the LS?

reason I'm asking is i'm not really looking to spend 400+ on an exhaust, so I'd like to just change out my stock GS-R to a ITR, since i don't really have heavy mods. will it bolt to the cat without any modification and how much better will it be?

 

Because you have an 01 gsr, a stock itr exhaust will bolt up. Remove the bottle necks and it will make power over stock.

 

i've read that the muffler has very little to do with restriction, especially the ITR and on cars with boltons. is this true?
