cel after seafoam
ok, i put sea foam in my 96 ls this afternoon and started getting the cel. im assuming this is the o2 sensor, but i was planning to pull the fuse on my ecu first and see if by chance that resolves the problem. now i run into another problem: i don't have the code for my stock cd player, and to get it i must call the acura dealer who is not open on sundays. my question is whether or not it is a bad idea to keep driving around with the cel staring me in the face? is the o2 sensor going to mess with my engine? i must say the sea foam did a nice job, but i'd rather not mess up the whole thing even though i need the car for work tomorrow. any help is much appreciated.
you'll run open loop thats all, its ok to drive like this unless theres mechanical problems. iyou might have some driveability problems (like stutter) but i doubt it. ts a 96 LS so you'll need a scanner to pull code, go to autozone, they'll do it for free. after you find code, replace what you burnt up with the seafoam. dont try that crap again.
I'd seafoam'd 2 of my cars and 2 of my friends' cars. It's really weird how I didn't get CEL on both my cars but CEL on both his cars. On his Integra, it went away on its own after a week of driving, but on his Accord, it stayed on for a while (but now the car it totalled so I don't know if it ever went off or not).
i've never heard of this. i would do it to my car if i hadn't just had the head off and all, but i'm thinking of using seafoam on my g/f's car. now i don't know if i want to use it . . .
did you use it right? Mine worked fine just looked like i was cheech and chong going down the road for a while with all the smoke

i hear its possible for seafoam to foul up your spark plugs and maybe o2 sensors..if your cel is from your o2 sensor i would take it out and clean it with some brake cleaner or something and try it again
how exactly do u induce it into the engine? a few people on mx6.com when i have my mx6 did it to there cars and they used the brake booster vacume hose. will any vacume hose work or what. As for the cel like everyone else said pull the code and also check plugs see if they need changing

put some in ur gas tank, some in the oil crank case, and then into a vacuum hose. there is an article here on h-t that tells you step by step.

You must have done the manifold ?. I got a CEL when I Seafoamed mine. I never did check the code. Odds are it was a misfire and not the O2 sensor. Pull your backup fuse or battery NEG cable and clear it. You should be fine.

well i checked the code and apparently it was my speed sensor....confuses the hell out of me, because i haven't had any problems with speedo or mileage goin weird on me. i didn't get to finish messing with it because i did it during lunch at the shop at work, but tomorrow i'll erase the code and see what happens...maybe it did just misfire and throw a weird code at me....uh....GO SEAFOAM lol
