Default does an exhaust need to break-in?

Well i just got my apex n1 installed today. I was wondering if it needs time to break-in? I noticed that sometimes when i'm at a stop light and my revs dip below 1000 rpms my exhaust seems to be shaking my rear bumper and my license plate rattles! Did anyone else experience this?

try resetting your ecu...

your first couple of drives will burn off some of the "stuff" in your muffler...which will result in your exhaust getting louder...well that's what happendd to my apex...

well i dunno about you but im usually outta gear before 1000 rpm and on the break when slowing.

I just installed my n1 yesterday, no weird vibration or rattling. But I do smell somthing new coming from my car.

What are the specs on your exhaust system ? from header back...

what size piping ? and do you have your exaust at an angle or just have it pointing straight out ?

im using 2.5'' carsound, 2.5'' piping to my n1 slightly up and out to the right.

Its the sound waves resonating. There are more of the sound waves exiting out (less being cancelled internally), hence it is louder too!

Dont worry..its fine. My whole car vibrates now!

B-18c1 - Does your shifter hit your piping. I was thinking of switching to an N1, but my buddy's shifter hits his piping and it feels and sounds so bad. His muffler use dot hit the bumper, we just moved the hangers around and now it doesnt rattle. Thanks

that "smell" is the smell of the gaskets that came w/ the exhaust burning thus sealing the pipes together.

Big Teggie: Shifter? I don't think its hitting....its kinda weird cause i can sorta control the rattle. When i'm on the throttle its not rattling but if my foot is just on the pedal controlling a consistent speed it'll rattle...well sometimes at least. Its like off and on. I'll give it two weeks for it to break-in and see if anything improves.

Dude, my TanabeRM quieted down after a few hours of driving. Weird.

Anywho, in hind sight maybe I should have bought the N1. Noise-wise they are the same. I think the next car will have an N1.

Good to hear that you got everything installed, definitely let me know how you like your current setup! One thing you might want to do, which I haven't, but to be safe is to re-torque or just hand-tighten everything once again....not neccessary, but if you want to be precise do that.

i like it alot except for the rattles! And my bumper still vibrates and the license plate makes a noise cause of the vibration (only at idle though). I was told that after it breaks-in everything will be better though. I'll borrow my friends hydraulic lift and stands someday and go under the car to re tighten everything.

how bearable is the N1 sound? Is it headache inducing? Annoying?

You should break it in a at least a week. Try to keep the Revs under 3K RPM's.
