JDM EK9 retractable mirrors and compatibility issues
I am wondering:
Since the USDM EJ/EK models only came with mickey mouse ear type mirrors what do you guys do when you want to convert to the jdm type retractable mirrors.
I mean over here in Germany, we have the same style mirror as the JDM cars since our vehicles are mainly manufactured in Japan so all we need to do is switch the JDM mirror shell with the motor inserts onto our EDM triangular baseplate or alternatively if the colors don't match swap the inserts from the JDM mirrors to the EDM mirrors.
So basically we can buy the integras (94-01) the preludes (96-00?) EK2D 3D 4D and Logo mirrors that all have the same outer shell, since the base plates are not transferable. I mean, it ist not that the base plate doesn't fit ... but the drivers side mirror will be a passengers side jdm mirror and that means you have a real good look at yourself but not the traffic.
So what do you guys do? Since you do not have the baseplate to start with?

Well, I understand that but then they cannot see the traffic properly unless they also convert to a rhd.
When you put the jdm mirrors as they come on the car your drivers side mirror will actually be a passenger side mirror which means you will see yourself really well. They are angled differently.
I certainly wouldn't recommend driving with them at all.
In Europe we can just exchange the baseplates and - voila- all is fine. And retractablity is really great in terms of tight parking spaces.

i definately understand what you're saying about the visibility.everybody i've seen just deals with it.most people do it for looks anyway,so function comes second.
