Need info on this engine - 1st gen CRX
OK, I'm working on a 1st gen CRX (we think it's an 84 or 85 - owner didn't know the model year when she bought it and it came with no documentation or information) I'm assuming it's an 84 since so far, all the parts I've gotten when I've asked for X part for an 84 CRX have fit.
Anyway, it's a 12-valve carbed engine, but I'm not really sure of anything else about it. I'm running into some really nasty ignition issues now and I need to know exactly what I'm working with before I go too far.
What I know: 12 Valve, carbeurated engine. Dizzy ignition. Not sure if it's a 1.3 or 1.5, most of the sites I've been to searching have had contradictory info, so I'm lost again.
So, does anyone know what engine this is? Enigne code, displacement, etc.?
Thanks,

well thre was no SI until 85, so they were all carbed before that. thats why all your pieces so far have fit.
there should still be a block stamp on it, even back in those days honda still did it. just the location on one that old im unsure of. on the newer blocks its below the volve cover to the left.
according to this site:
http://www.enginereplacement.c...p.htm
it could be a d15a2 carbed
also, theres this site http://www.redpepperracing.com/ that is all first gens and their engines.
good luck with it.

Check the 4th and 5th position in the vin number
AE = Civic, l300cc CRX (84-86 crx)
AF = Civic, l500cc CRX (84-86 crx)
EC1=the only year that had d-series (87 crx)
10th position designates year
S = 1984
F = 1985
G = 1986
H = 1987

The front headlights will be mounted deeper in (I believe 84-85)
And the
86-87 will be flush with the front bumper and hood.
Get what I mean?
If its fuel injected it will be a 85-87 CRX Si.

Thanks for the help. Yeah, I figured out that it's either an 84 or an 85. It's got the in-set sealed-beam lights instead of the aero lenses.
From what I'm thinking, the 12v is the 1.5L and the 8v is the 1.3L. I'll check that block stamp and the VIN tomorrow. Thanks.
