***HELP ME FIGURE OUT THIS WIERD PROBLEM please***
hey guys, i have this problem with my 1991 CRX Si...this wierd screeching, screaming, whining noise USUALLY happens when i do a downshift without braking..
and the sound USUALLY goes away when i throw it into Neutral...but the wierd thing is that this one time, i was driving the car, and then the sound came up, and i put it in neutral and stopped and popped my hood...the sound is still going....and it is LOUD as hell!....very embarrassing i might add....i try to figure out where this sound is coming from, and its like right by the stock battery location, or near the tranny..
it usually happens after driving the car for like 15-20 mins....
PLEASE LET ME KNOW WHAT THIS IS SO I CAN FIX IS ASAP!!!

Are you sure it's not coming from your brakes?
I had a messed up brake pad that had similar symptoms...
There was a loud screeching sound and even when I got out of the car and popped the hood it would still continue to screech some times...
It was really weird and took me a while to figure out what was really wrong...
Anyways, just something else you could check

When my distributor went out, it would start to screech and whine a little bit then go away. Almost like a metal screeching sound. It just kept getting worse until it finally went. You said the noise was coming from the transmission side, it could be the distributor, check and see if you have any codes on your computer. Hope you find out your problem.
was the dizzy sound like SUPER LOUD!....and my ecu is only blinking once then off...once then off...that is the o2 sensor rite??...

When the distributors go they can be very loud and they have the same screeching noise that you describe, but when you say it's doing it makes me wonder if that's it or not. The only other thing I'm thinking it could be is an input shaft bearing on the tranny. If you push the clutch in does it make any difference at all?

ummm i never did try pushing the clutch down...i will try it next time it happens...
all i got to do is hold the clutch down, and the sound should go away????

I do know that it could be your throw out bearing in ypur tranny but i am not sure that it would make a really loud screaching, it usually is a loose kinda grinding sound, and it would stop the noise when i press the clutch in. It also could be the distributer bearings going out (meaning a new distributer, very expensive), or it could be the starter bearings. So try pushing your clutch in, and if it stops making the sound, that might be your problem. Then try just putting your ear really close to the distributer, you should be able to tell if your distributer going bad, and if it isn't one of them try getting the starter check out , i am not sure how to check the starter. Let me know if i helped.

Does it go away when you push in the clutch. If it does you have a bad throwout bearing.

i doubt its the throwout bearing, cuz my clutch and bearing were replaced like 7 months ago, and my exedy stage one clutch only has like 5000 miles on it....
im thinkin it is probably the dizzy....but how do i REALLY check it???
should i just wait till i hear the sound again??

Did you check your computer for any codes? Other than that when the noise comes back put your ear up to the distributor and see if that is where it is coming from. I think there is a way to check it because usually one of the sensors in the distributor goes out(i'm not sure of the name of it off hand) might want to search for that or wait for the sound to come back. My distributor started making that noise and then a code popped up on the computer. I drove on it for about 2-3 weeks before i got stranded when the distributor went out.
