so im driving down a street and i notice that my car is making a funny noise by the transmission side. What i know right now is that it makes like this scraping noise, like when your breaking(and sometimes its like a spring on a matress) , this only happens at 2500-4000 rpms. Iv been trying to figure out what it was for a while now. Then after 2-3 days with this problem it starts to make the noise at 2000 rpms(its getting worse).but when i press the clutch down , all the noise goes away,so it couldnt be the breaks. Can it possibly be the clutch?im worried and a bit scared of what is going on . Does anyone have a good idea of what happened to my car?

 

It might be the "main input shaft bearing" that is pretty common to go out on the 96-00 trannys. My 97 civic has gone through 2 of them already.

 

how much do you think one whould cost?

 

It is not that expensive but rather the labor it takes to replace it.

 

ima be replacing it, does anyone know if i can use my 88 hf main input shaft bearing for my 88 si main input shaft bearing without a problem.

Just buy a new one cheapskate, it's about less than $20....
