Default Need info on stock WRX STI IHI VF39 Turbo

Can anyone give me some good info on this turbo? Currently I have a stock wrx turbo matched up with my hf manifold. Do you think that the sti turbo would be a worthwhile upgrade and also would it bolt right up in place of my wrx turbo? I'm guessing that they use the same flanges.

yes, if u have stock WRX turbo (tiny) then VF39 will bolt right up cuz it uses the same flanges. its good turbo.
ive seen STi's get over 300hp and almost 400lbs of torque w/ this turbo.
it is similiar to VF34 (what i have) but it isnt rollerbearing, just thrust bearing, and it has a slightly smaller compressor wheel.

nice. Do you know where I could get this for a good price? It looked like used ones were going for around $400 on NASIOC.

Seems resonable. I think that would be a great turbo

yea they were like 400 on there. Do you know how much power they would be good for on a d16?

fyi u gonna need a external wastegate or sumthing cuz stock settin is like 12-15 psi. ive read that the vf39 has a 60-70 peak horsepower over the stock wrx td04. but i can be wrong.

all depends on ur mods and state of tune.
i dont think u will have a problem reaching 350hp or more.

this is all speculation since we dont see many VF39's on a D16. u could be the first.

You might go with the VF22. It was used on the older STI's and my buddy just picked up a brand new one for like 550ish shipped.

VF22 are too laggy. their low end sucks and its a top end turbo.
VF39 has better low and mid range grunt and decent top end.

Yeah the VF22 is more top end, but I've been in my friends WRX and his VF22 started boosting at around 3k and hit 21psi around 4k, which I don't consider to bad.
