GSR owners w/cat-back exhaust, Q about VTEC
Have any of you installed a cat-back exhaust and couldn't hear VTEC crossover at 4400 RPM anymore? Mainly refering to GSR's with basic bolt-on's such a I/E.
I used to have a GReddy EVO1 cat-back and I couldn't hear VTEC at all, I could only hear the secondaries open up at 5800 RPM. I currently have a Tanabe SRM cat-back and VTEC crossover is very noticeable.
Does anyone have a GReddy EVO2 cat-back and are able to hear VTEC crossover? or have an RS*R exmag?
I don't really get to drive my GSR much, so every once in a while I will rev towards redline just to bring a smile to my face. Normally I don't rev past 4k in my GSR to save on gas.

I have a catback exhaust and cold air intake. I can hear the VTEC crossover at 4400, but its more noticeable and pronounced when the secondaries open up. When hitting the upper end of the RPM range, you can really hear VTEC opening up and engaging. However, I can still hear VTEC crank up at the 4400 rpm range.

Do you have the Tanabe Racing Medallion? Hyper Medallion? or Super Racing Medallion?

i had a greddy evo on mine with a test pipe it's very loud, even without a test pipe you should be able to hear it at 4400 I had tanabe racing medallion on my car at one time its not to bad with a cat but with a test pipe or high flow its to annoying when your on the highway it too loud.
I have a greddy evo2. (when i still had gsr intake manifold). I could slightly hear vtec cross over but it definitly was not as pronounced as the secondaries opening.

VTEC doesnt gradually open up and engage "more" in the higher RPM range, its open at 4400, and stays open.
If you want to hear your vtec more, to show off to your buds, go get some cams and listen to the music. Youll hear it then.

I have a Tanabe Racing Medallion and You wouldn't notice the VTEC crossover if you weren't listening for it. It sounds like a small pop and then you notice the exhaust note change, only a little.

Secondaries open up at 5750 (basically 5800 RPM) and stays open throughout the high RPM band. VTEC engages at 4400 RPM on all stock GSR's and also continues throughout the high RPM band.

<= Iceman Intake (i swap between SR and CA since it's 2 piece) and ITR b-pipe with Apexi N1 axle back. I can hear the noticeable change at 4400 but of course at 5800 it kicks ***
Most of the straight-through mufflers will make the VTEC crossover very pronounced. Beyond 5700 or so, the engine intake overpowers the exhaust (since the IAB opens the secondary intake runners).

I also have an Iceman intake, but right now it's converted to a short ram because of winter & snow.

Your hearing the secondary butterflys opening, not so much VTEC.

I have a comptech icebox, JDM ITR header, 2.5 inch cat and a greddy exhaust.
To the person that said 3 distinct personalities you must be VERY observant. As far as acceleration and sounds goes I cant tell the difference. My gsr has TWO sounds There is a full throttle sound before 5500 and a sound after 5500 RPM. Cant hear anything when the cam switches.

I need to post a GSR dyno vid for people to hear how loud VTEC crossover sounds at 4400 RPM. I'd post my dyno but you can see my license plate so I need to edit it out first.

With my setup it is very hard to hear VTEC open up at 4400, but I can notice it very slightly. My car sounds nice when the secondaries open up, VTEC is much more pronounced then.

haha.. don't you have that insane security system (ie. razors, alarm, fuel kill, etc..)? i don't see why people block their license plates anyway..
