Moms Integra totalled, can we buy it back?...help please!
Ok so tonight my brother got T-boned by a woman doin 55, the car is def. gonna be totalled. Luckily everyone in the car is ok, they are all hosipitalized, but just for tests and stuff.
I figured id come to the Teg forum to see if other Teg owners had a simliar experience.
Its a 96 SE 4 door, like 120k on it. Id expect them to give my ma somewhere between 5-6 k for it, and im wondering typically what the procedures are for buying it back. So basically, i dont wanna call tomorrow, ask the wrong question and not be able to, so im looking to you guys first. The tow yard has the car now, so im assuming an adjuster will go there first right? So we just need to contact insurance tomorrow and does my ma just say she wants the car back? Will they take that as "i want the car back so u dont need to give me fully what its worth back.."?
I would like for my ma to get the 5-6k back, then part her car out for her to put more down on a new car. If the worth is around 5-6k, what should i expect them to ask for a buyback price? Im just so confused i dont wanna say the wrong thing or something and blow my chances...besides, some of u guys can get some nice parts for cheap
thanks for any help...

they should give you the option of buying it back. Just make sure it's worth it as far as money and effort.
i was in a somewhat situation...except mine was stolen & stripped. it was a total loss cuz damages exceeded the cars value. to me it was all cosmetic..i needed new seats, new bumpers, new lights, new fendsers, and a new hood...so i wanted to buy it back..but they said they dont want to be liable for nay safety issues so they wouldnt sell it to me. check with yer insurance company about theyre policy
They do allow buyback but not always. Some companies dont do it. My friend just bought back his car from the insurance company though. WELL worth it for him. They charged either 500 or 700 for the buy back and he has easily 4k worth of stuff in their. Just wait for them to declare the vehicle totalled and once they are decided on the car then ask. You can probably ask anytime as the person isnt gonna make their decision to total or not based on whether you buy it back or not.
Im gonna go and take some pics today at the tow yard, the pass. side is totally fucked im sure, but i would think the interior, motor, rims, brakes and all that can probably be selvaged. I figure they give it to me for a grand or less, ill prolly take it. My moms gonna talk to insurance today. Ill let u guys know, thanx for the thoughts.
