i just bought a new teg 2 weeks ago. decent for a 91. thing is, when i accelerate out of first gear it always engages kinda harsh. I have to drag the clutch and drop at a higher rpm if i want a smooth transition. Its feels as if its almost slipping, kinda grinding, right before it engages. Clutch, is what im thinking it most likely is, but i think it might be the axles. ..any opinions?

you think the clutch or slave cylinder could be causing that? Its weird, like i said, its a nasty, almost grindy engagement, and right before it catches, it kinda drops, as if i didnt give it enough gas, although im at a higher rpm than should be neccessary. Am i just an idiot or has no one else ever had this happen to them? id appreciate any input at all. thanks, rg...
Our 2nd gen tegs aren't hydro...we're cable
So there's no slave cylinder, nothing to bleed, etc. Before you go replacing anything expensive, try adjusting your clutch cable first.
This isn't too hard. Right where the cable goes into your tranny, you'll see a block **** with little "nubs" on it. Try adjusting this up or down, depending which way you want to go. If you're lucky, this is the cause of your prob, simply it's not adjusted right. You'll have to play with it for a little and try different settings to see if it fixes it.
If it doens't, then yah most likely it's your clutch. I think right off the bat it's your clutch and not a cable adjustment problem. But like I said you might as well try adjusting the cable first bc it's free and you can do it yourself

yeah, i know right where the cable is. i dont think the problem lies in the cable because its an engagement problem, however, i will try anyways. sometimes its the small things.
I would get under the car and check the axles first. It kind of sounds like a bad axle be because if you engage it smoothly then the axle doesn't jolt and then grind. It really could be either them or the axles so just start eliminating things 1 at a time.

havent had time to do that and im hoping its just the axles, however, how would i know if its first gear? maybe a few grinds...if that were so, would i feel it everytime the grind came around no matter what rpm? blah...and i think the rings are shot and the valves are in bad need of adjustment...but thats another story.
