Has anyone else had problems with VIS carbon fiber hood + cold weather?
I've had my VIS hood for 3 years, and for some reason this week's cold weather has caused it to crack...
The hood started with a small 2" crack in the center which made me wonder if it was from a rock or impact. But there was no mark to indicate any object had contacted it. Furthermore, I came out one morning to dicscover it was new after it was 19 degrees outside.
Next I noted over the next few days with the record low temperatures that the crack was spreading... in fact, now there are several all over the hood. I'm starting to wonder if the hood is safe even with hood pins. It still seems to be intact, however so I'm going to keep an eye on it.
Has anyone else encountered such issues? The resin is cracking - not the cf weave itself.....

Until you can have it looked at by a person who has done CF or similar work I would use the oem metal hood... No need for you to have something stupid happen when it's avoidable

Might not look as nice anymore, but I have no doubt it will hold together with hood pins.
Warren had my old vented hood on his race car when it met its demise.
The hood had bent and the resin cracked, but the weave still stayed together and could have been re-installed (if it wasn't for the rest of the front end of that car).

Does he want to sell it?

I noticed this after two winters with my civic, but never had any problems otherwise. You should be ok, but it's always better to be safe than sorry.
