Hi all,
Two nights ago I was driving the ej1 when my lights (all of them, cluster, console, headlights etc.) started to flicker and my battery light came on intermittently, at the same time, the RPM dropped significantly. It corrected itself almost immediately, so I shrugged it off as a fluke.
Last night it happened again, but with a twist, while all of the above was going on, my freakin low beams flicker violently and go out, just the low beams. I thought the fuses might have blown so I check, and they're both fine. I checked the connections at the lights, and they are also fine, no corrosion or melting of the harness/plugs. Curiously however, my high beams survive allowing me to get home. I checked the bulbs once I got home and no surprise, the low beam filaments are blown. On the way to autozone to get new bulbs, all the lights including the high beams now start to flicker and the high beam filaments blow. I check the fuses, and the fuses are FINE.
I broke out the multimeter and check the battery voltage, its at 14.2 (engine running) What the hell is going on? and if its my voltage regulator (which according to the helms its not) then why are my headlights the only ones blowing? I double, and then triple checked all the grounds and they are all tightly secured. Can anyone with more electrical experience chime in here and clue me in?
Cliff Notes:
Lights flicker
RPM Drops
battery/alt light flashing rapidly
Headlight lo-and hi-beam filaments blow
fuses check out ok
Battery Voltage @ 14.2v with engine running
no damage/corrosion @ headlight plugs/harnesses
all grounds secured
alternator securely bolted on
battery terminals not corroded and tightly secured
By the way this is on a '94 EX coupe.
Thanks,
Mike
