Default Brembo, no longer Brembo?

Hi Guys,

I heard a second hand story (Beware!), that Brembo has reorganized their production lines and that they are now 'farming out' the manufacture of their OEM brake rotors. I was also told that the quality of their OEM replacement rotors was no longer as good as it used to be.

Obviously there are still a number of the older rotors around, but when they're gone, they're gone.

Has anyone heard anything about this?

Thanks,
John

Please say it isn't so!

Excuse me while I run out and stock up on Brembo blanks!

Don't panic!<LOL>

Like I said it was a secondhand+ rumor!

Just looking for confirmation or denial (or both!)

With companies like Maclaren still using them, I don't think the quality has suffered too much.

Hi Tweak,

That was part of the story. Brembo itself would still make the top of the line stuff, but would no longer make the OEM replacement stuff that we (generally) use. That would let their high quality facilities concentrate on the racing and upgrade brake kits without having to worry about the routine stuff.

There was a paragraph in the Summit Racing import catalog/supplement, that said Auto Specialties is now authorized to use the "Brembo" name and packaging materials.

I was told at least 1-1/2 years ago that Brembo has the OEM casting made in one country and the machining done in another. One of the countries is Mexico and I think that's where they are machined. It was something with NAFTA that made this work for them for the best pricing. They are still balanced so I haven't worried too much.

The stickers on my two boxes of brembo rotors say, "Made in EEC."

All I could find on web was:
European Economic Community

Hey Dave,

Was that Brazil for the casting?

Thank you,
John
