I did a search and looked through numerous pages and couldn't find anyone with my same problem! I have a 99 ex 5spd and the tranny has a crack in it. I have a dx tranny i can put in right now, but will the dx tranny fit my car with no problems and will it make it that much slower than it already is??????

 

it will be a bit slower ,final gear is longer and 34are longer too. 4 the mean while roll with it and save up for a si sohc or ex

it will fit fine, any hydro d-series will fit, but I dont recommend it, find another ex tranny, or a 5th gen si tranny. the dx tranny will make your car much slower, and unless you plan on f/i the gear ratio sucks, but its great on gas milage.

 

To answer the fitment question, yes it will fit right up perfectly. As far as the gearing and such, it will be noticably slower, but you will get better gas milage as well. So that should help save money for a new ex tranny.

 

i've blown holes in a couple of my different trannies. I always just have them welded back up. I do not see why you cannot weld the crack shut. Just make sure the internals are ok first.

i dont have pics right now but thats what the guys told at the shop where i got my clutch put in afew months ago! It leaks oil really bad. like the speed sensor on the back of the tranny is covered in oil. It leaks really really bad.

 

if theres a crack fix it, inspect if there is any internal problem. if there isnt any then keep using the tranny!

 

i want to try and pull the tranny myself but honestly i wouldnt know exactly what i was doing and i dont know what to look for and wear! I would pay somone to do it but i def dont have the money right now! im guessing you pull the axles and go from there?

 

eww dont pay anybody to swap a tranny. just find a cheap ex tranny then and do it urself!

 

is swapping tranny's somthing i could do in a regular garage with regualr jacks and somewhat ok tools? plus i dont really know exactly what to do? With my luck i'd probly break somthing else.

Its simple, but I pull the complete engine out. I don't like trying to work in that little space.

My first swap I pulled the LS out like 6 times because I was an idiot and thought my clutch was fucked, but later I figured out I just didn't have the axle in properly, I don't regret it either, I can do an LS swap in 5 hours by myself now if all the parts are there, I never had anyone help me with any of my swaps cause I don't trust that they know what theyre doing.

The only car I ever had a problem getting the trans off was on a hyundai, and that was cause my friend is an idiot, and really took advantage of the clutch, the throwout bearing was practically welded to the PP and it took a quad and 6 people holding the engine to get it off.
