Default 4th Gen Help?!

Hey guys,
I have been reading your posts and found some very interesting and useful info. However, I am in the market for a 4th gen lude, just like the look of them, and was wondering if there is anything I should know about this era before making my purchase. I want to go fast and I don't care how but I want to do it right. Any info on these would help. Also, any websites with info relating to what the various engines are would help (i.e. H22A, B16, etc.). Thanks in advance.

if i were you, i'd get an si...unless you have plenty of funds. the vtecs are usually overpriced, and not THAT great. the base is crap..only about 135 wheel hp, the si has 160 and the vtec has 190. also theres a 4ws option you might want to consider.

Only get a SI or VTEC.. VTEC model has bigger brakes, more HP (30 more), 1994-1996 have leather (even though I don't like leather), 7 Speaker sound system, and they are pretty damn FAST.

SI Preludes are great as well, can be found a lot cheaper, and are fairly quick, but its not VTEC..

IMO, stay away of 4WS, its only more stuff to go wrong..

I do not want a 4WS but I am seriously looking at the VTEC but still have not made up my mind. Preludes are pretty scarce here, for sale anyway, here in Fort Worth, Texas. Might have to take what I can find. Do you know a good website for research on the different year models and their options?

Vtec would definetly be my first choice, but if you can't find a good deal on one, it usually isn't too hard to find a really really good deal on an SI, and then you can get a the Japanese Vtec put in (H22a 200 hp), the tranny won't match perfect, but it still runs great and is still just as fast. I got my 95 SE(wich is the SI with all the Vtec options liek leather, 7 speakers, etc; except for the actual Vtec, lol) for only 8 G's, and got a H22 Jap Spec for only 2 G's including installation. Just keep lookin around there are always good deals somewhere

So a '96 SI with 53K miles, stock, one owner, 5spd., garage kept would be a good deal at $6200.00? I am really wanting a VTEC but if a VTEC motor is $2K then I may consider the SI and replace the motor when the time comes.

That sounds like a good deal. I know JG is looking for an H23a right now too, if you wanted to get teh H22a right away. IMO I'd go turbo with the H23a though. If you want to go fast there is no better way, and that's coming from a guy who swears by nitrous.

What is the difference between an H22a and an H23a and do you know how much he is wanting for his motor?

The H22A(VTEC) has 190 hp the H23a(nonVTEC) has 160 hp. JG is looking for a motor not to sell one.

Misunderstood about JG but thanks for the info on the motors, that helps.

h22a is a 2.2 duel over head cam vtec, american 190 hp, jdm 200hp-Vtec
h23a is a 2.3 duel over head (damn near sure) cam non-vtec, american 160 hp, jdm-no clue-SI
f22a is a 2.2 singel over head cam non vetec, american 135 hp, jdm-no clue-S
hope this helps and if you find any good deals on h22a's let me know.
Thanks

Yes that spells it out pretty clearly. And I will...
...let you know WHEN I find a good deal (so long as there is more than one, first one is mine).

Are there tell tale signs on the blocks that tell you whether they are American or JDM motors?

jdm motors have no number at the end.
example:

h22a1, h22a4 = us
h22a = japan

btw the reason the h23a1 is a 2.3 and the h22a1 is a 2.2 is that the cylinder walls need to be larger to spuuort the increased rpms when vtec is ingaged.

yeah, that's a really good deal, might want to check the VIN and make sure there aren't any major recks on file, I didn't when I bought mine and found mine had been wrecked once in the front and back, I didn't want to have a f*ck*d up frame so I had some technicians look at it and there is no frame damage, it was all cosmetic, but you might want to check to be sure, it could be a steal, or it could be b/c the car's really only worth that much b/c of frame damage, if not, have fun with your new lude!!!

Hey, thanks for the suggestions. The car has been wrecked and is running a recond. title. A$$hole tried to pass it off to me like it had never been wrecked. Oh well, back to the classifieds.
