Default Help with squeaking brakes!!

My gf's prelude's brakes are squeaking, BUT only when the car's just about to stop (on the brakes and going really slow) AND when she starts accelerating (on the gas, but still going slow...just starting from a dead stop). When she first told me, I thought "oh, the pads are warn", but then she said it squeaks when she accelerates too, which doesn't sound like pads to me. I know this isn't ITR related, but you guys know a lot so I'm hoping you can help (I've already tried the prelude forum and didn't get anything aside from "it's the pads"). So, does anyone know what may be causing the squeaking? Is the pad not seating right?...is the shims off? Thanks.

It's only about 4 months old. It doesn't make noise when turning, only when going really slow either braking or accelerating. I could try jacking up the car and wiggling the wheels, but it doesn't sound like the bearings. Any other ideas? I don't really know what it might be. If it only happened anytime she hit the brake, it'd be easy. She's getting a lil freaked cuz it's her first new car, so I'm trying not to have this spoil her fun. Thanks.

yeah, we're gonna try to take it to the dealer tomorrow. I just hate dealing with them re service and warranty stuff. I don't have good experiences w/ dealers. Thanks guys.

It's quite possible it needs new brake pads. Worn brake pads may squeak even when you're not stepping on the brakes.

Did you check the pads? On the 'lude, can you see the edges of the brake pads through the spokes in the wheel, so you can tell the thickness of the remaining pad material? If you're not sure how to do this, click here. However, on some cars you can't see the edge of the brake pad, so this might or might not work on your car.

Well, we took it to the dealer today. They didn't find anything wrong w/ the brakes. The pads look fine also. Oh well, guess we'll just have to wait and see and hope it's nothing more than just warn pads. Thanks guys for the help!
