Default Enough with the tire noise...Help...

I currently have some nice looking Konig 16" rims on my 99EX. They have Yoko Parada Spec II tires, and they're just too loud. I am considering trading the rims out for some 99-00 SI rims instead for the better ride. What should I do here? I love the grip that I get with the Yokos, but they just make way too much noise with the tread pattern. They also wear down too quickly. Should I go with the rim swap? What tires would be good to replace with...something with high durability, good grip, and minimal noise?

Thanks.

Also, does anyone have a link to a good car soundproofing faq? I'd like to get the car to sound as quiet as stock from the inside.

Yoko ES 100

Only summer tire that's been quiet enough for me to keep on my DD. Azenis, Khumo, blah blah blah all get loud as they wear. The ES have gotten a bit noisier, but not too much.

dynamat or this stuff -here is a material known as "Ice Guard," which is used by roofing contractors. It is similar to Dynamat, both in thickness and density. It is self-adhesive on one side, and seems to work very well. Unfortunately, it is sold only in large quantities (225 ft^2 rolls), and runs about $70 for this much. Perhaps a few people could get together for a roll, or it might be possible to get scraps from a roofing contractor.

don't want to sound like an *** or anything, but what do you expect by changing your tire size from 14's to 17's????? You have 3 inches less rubber than you did from factory that would absorb noise and bumps..

If it bothers you, sell them and put a performance tire on the Si rims, because thats what it sounds like you want to do. You can throw falken Azenis or Yokohama ES100 on the factory Si's for a comfortable ride with respectable grip..
I've had the Parada's and they do rate as far as grip....

es100's are still pretty loud...and they track road irregularities. i will say that they are good tires for the money though.

go down to 15" rims to increase the sidewall and get yourself a set of s-03's...less harshness and noise while increasing grip.

A larger sidewall will have a less harsh ride, yes; but a loud tire will be a loud tire regardless. My 14" Azenis scream like a banshee, and my 14" snows are pretty damn loud as well.

The Azenis will be just as loud as the Prada's.

I was only able to hear the ES100s after they were about 50% worn, and at highway speeds, they get drowned out by the windnoise. I've never had a summer tire that didn't track the road.

Are s-03s really quieter? That's the one tire I can't comment on, because I don't have experience with it. The tread pattern makes it look like it would be pretty noisey.

I would like to know too my next tires will either be es100's or so3's. Partial towards the so3's. My 712's are on the way out.

IMO the Kumo's aren't that loud, and they are a pretty good tire. The Yoko Spec 2's do get noisy, I haven't had any experience w/ azenzi's. GL

I've gone through more than my fair share of tires.

ALL high performance summer tires are noisy; it's just a matter of what you can live with. ES100's do get pretty noisy once they start wearing down. S-03's don't exhibit that character...they are slightly noisy, but aren't as bad as ES100's and they don't get worse with age/mileage.

You will like the S-03's. I have made the mistake of switching to Toyo T1-S to save on weight, but at the huge cost of traction.

I just found out how loud they are myself. Luckly my greddy exhaust drowns it out except for ever so often. They grip nice for $85 205/40/17 next time i might go all out and get toyo t1-s but there like $122 plus s/h and 20less tread rating. But damn there sick looking.
