Default GM synchromesh FM vs Synthetic?

After searching for what I needed I found some more info.

So whats the lowdown on this synthetic stuff. Is it better than FM or is it something else? Google didn't have much on it.

im using the General Motors (Part #12346190) a.k.a. Castrol Syntorq LT 75W-85 right now and i have no problems with it. i think the biggest improvement was its cold weather performance. the LT in the syntorq name stands for "Low Temperature". with honda mtf the shifting wasnt as good when i drove my car every morning.

heres an email from castrol:

Title: Castrol TAF-X in the USA
Message: Here is the response to the inquiry I sent to Castrol USA about where to get Castrol TAF-X in the USA: "Castrol TAF-X 75W-90 GL-4 gear oil is made in the U.K. and sold only in Europe. However, the equivalent in the U.S. is Syntorq LT. Having said that, Syntorq LT SAE 75W-85, API GL -4 is a premium high performance, synthetic gear lubricant for synchronized manual transmissions. The all new "clean slate" approach enables Syntorq LT to provide consistent performance and durability under the most severe operating conditions due to its unique polymer free formula. It has been designed primarily as a problem solving gear lubricant for manual transmissions to provide reduced gearshift effort at low temperatures. Syntorq LT is available through General Motors (Part #12346190) and Chrysler (Part #4637579) dealerships. Please contact your local dealership."

Interesting stuff. I wonder if I could get that at the local parts store. I dont think they will have the LT stuff though because it dosent get colder than 60 degrees around here on average.

EDIT: BTW I found the pn for the syn stuff in an old post of yours.

you cant get it at any autoparts store, only at chrysler and gm dealerships. the best deal i found was at gmpartsdirect.com for $11.50/qt.

you can also try Nissan HQ Multi 75W-85, part #: 999MP-MTF00P. how many other synthetic 75W-85 GL-4 manual transmisson fluids are available in the US? its possible that this may rebottled syntorq LT. im willing to try this if i can find it cheaper than $11/qt.

Hey thanks for the info.
I'm gonna go with the synchromesh FM stuff for the time being because more than one tranny needs fluid right now.
