Default Things to look out for when buying an EF or CRX

I am buying a EF or crx any day now and I guess you could say I am getting a cheap one “spending around a grand“. What should I look out for when inspecting these cars? I know rust can be an issues - what if it has a small dent or medium sized dent in the quarter panel?

depends on the size dent.i would look to see how all elctrical works.i would inspet the motor from top to bottom looing for oil or coolant.interior is obviouse,i would look at the rad support just to see if there was any damage from an accident never reported.i would mainly drive the car to feel if there are any suspension problems.

There've been about 25 bazillion threads on this. And a grand won't really get you that much.

Search the word "Buying" in the EF forum... you get litterally 3 ******* pages.

Also "Homie" I've bought 3 of them, and trust me, the cheapest one I got was for 800, and it had no motor. These cars have huge resale value, and my latest Si still books for nearly 2500. Don't back-*** me. I know what I'm talking about here.

He PMd me, and it looks like he's really got a problem. What kind of hope does a running 600 CRX have?

My $800 one needed an engine.

But a new A6 shouldn't be more than 400 right?

I got a rust free 89 Si with 160k for 200$, the only thing bad was some bolster wear on the driver seat and a bad fuel pump relay. It's all about finding the right deals, the guy I bought it from was gonna have it towed to the junkyard and scrapped.

Yeah after talking to the guy back and forth via Email this is what I found out. I guess it’s worth checking out in person because you never and 600 bucks is cheap even if it needs some work.

It runs but it’s not pretty, it has a 7 inch dent above the passenger rear tier, the frame is straight, it has no rust except for a little spot on the hood, has a clean title & is registered,, they used to car to drive around town and work so they could save on gas. He also said they are getting rid of the car because they have 2 many cars in front of their house and the city complained. For the most part the guy sounds legit but only time will tell. Who knows it might turn out to be a good deal - I just need to look it over really well.

Also from what I have seen out here a crx will cost more and be harder to find. I have been finding ef hatches in my price range left and right some with photos even. It’s just a matter of looking in the right places and inspecting them. I have my truck tell April so I have tell then to make whatever I get ready to be driven daily.

RUST...

Oh, and make sure some numnut didnt replace the bottom end of his d15b2(dx) motor with an d16b6(hf) bottom end.. Its not good to put a 16 valve head on an 8 valve motor.. My crx was like this thats why I say it..

Looks like the tranny isn't your only problem. I would say if cancer gets that car any more, you'll no longer need to roll down your windows in the summertime.

look out for people lieing about what they did to it without proof....the guy who sold me my CRX said it had almost brand new axles, a new timing belt, fuel pump, water pump and the brakes were brand new....within the first 2 months the axles started clicking, the timing belt (origional) broke on me about 10 months ago...and thats about it. Oh yeah and the brakes were almost gone (newer pads on eaten rotors

But then again it is my baby

damn i would be afraid to even close the door in that red crx for fear there is rust hiding else were and just have the ****** fall off.oh well. a 7 inch dent in the rear quarter panel is kinda iffy to me.ask ho wlong the dent has been there, ther could be rust forming under it.

My friend just bought a 91 DX hatch for 400$.. It had a few CEL's.. I took a look at it being the honda head I am and had all 3 codes cleared in 5 minutes.. Someone rebuild the motor and had the IACV and the Intake Air temp sensors backwards.. The dizzy ignitor was toast.. Other then that the car has no rust.. Interior is nice, could use some new seats, no cracks though. Most importantly No RUST.

Point being.. Theres good deals out there, you just have to know where to look, and becareful
