I am thinking of removing my Catalytic Converter. I know it makes the car louder which is not what i am looking for. but what other pro's and cons are there? I need some opinions. Does it make more power? Will i even feel a difference? INFORM ME PLease. thanks
FYI: i drive a gsr

Never had one on any of my cars and probably never will. Only pro i see is that it protects our ozone and whatnot...other than that its just restricting my precious exhaust flow.
i dont run a cat in mine because it is one more restriction to worry about. if u go this route, i would make or find a dummy cat that looks like you actually have one. it is a monster fine in most places for not having one.

Actually, it's a federal thing, meaning nation wide. I believe it's about a $2500 fine.
Do what you want, but remember your kids, or those you might want to have.

Not sure what emissions are like in NY. Hey, it's a personal thing. I've always kept mine on my car. Again, as stated above, there are fines for that, blah, blah, blah. So do what you want.

keep in mind that if you just take off your cat and run a test pipe, chances are you're gonna be running a bit lean, so you might want to retune

It'll be fine without a retune.

Head down to Tijuana and do some hiking.
Makes your car smell and sound like a giant weed wacker. What sounds like a weed wacker, and what smells like a weed wacker, IS a weed wacker.
A high flow cat causes less restriction in the exhaust as a mandrel bend.

"Whatever you do, do not remove or gut out the catalytic converter on your street car. The monolithic, straight through design of modern 3-way catalytic converters is usually quite free flowing on most modern sport compact cars, producing at the most, only a pound or two of extra backpressure. A gutted cat can actually hurt power as the empty box can cause flow stagnation, which effectively shortens the length of the moving gas column in the exhaust pipe. The empty box can also reduce important flow velocity. This can be felt as a loss in bottom end power.
Because of these factors, some of our project cars have actually gained power with the addition of a cat. As the number of vehicles on our highways grows every year, we must all do our part to manage pollution. If every last bit of power must be extracted, as in real, off-the-street sanctioned racing, then the cat can be removed and replaced with a length of pipe, not simply gutted. "

The gains are VERY insignificant when under 200HP all motor.

Couldn't agree more myself. It also makes your exhaust a little raspier. I personally can not stand that sound. Look around for dynos on JUST an aftermarket catalytic converter or a gutted cat, and you will see that gains are so minimal it's not really worth it, unless you get a 2.5" collector header...then it may be a good idea to at least get a bigger cat.
