I went to get my car smogged, but it failed the test, so i had to go and get the car fixed. Upon going to get it checked out, the owner of the shop told me it would cost 60 dollars for a diagnostic test, so i was lke whatevers and let him do it. Later, he told me that my spark plug wires were bad and needed to be replaced, but for 180 dollars...now this seemed rather steep, they were replaced with some NGK spark plug wires. Then he said something was wrong with the distributor...blah blah and i had to leave it overnite because he said there may also be something wrong with the distributor. He called me today saying that my convertor was bad as well and had to be worked on...all this because i failed a smog test...$60+180+others...probably well over 300. I'm getting really irritated with it, was this reasonable? I still havent gotten my car back yet, until another 2-3 hours. So...its a 1991 Accord LX. :broke as fawk now:

Ask the mechanic exactly what was wrong with the parts. Ask for a the old parts back, so you they replaced them and ask them how it affected the smog test. I honestly have never heard of a dizzy affecting smog results, unless the timing was advanced.

 

He sounds full of crap. It's very convienient how he tells you this is wrong, you tell him to fix it and then magically something else is wrong. He's full of ****. Go elsewhere.

well anywho its the law "he cant keep it over night" you have every right to drive it off, and he cant force you to fix it. If i was ditch the guy and just look for a other place.

when i got my sticker the guy helpt me cuz, i had a bad tranny and roters that needed turning. i still passed =D just gotta connect with the person ..

then 3 weeks later my O2 went bad..lol luck i must say

Man, there's no way in hell I'd pay for all that. I'd pay the diagnostic fee and ditch that place. Report his *** to the BBB.

all shops will charge obscene amount of $$$ for spark plug replacement. although the actual part is relatively cheap, and install is not that hard at all.

The total of all the parts was like late 200's , it was the "labor" that made it go to 612.00. Looks like I'm gonna go back tomorrow and ask for the old parts back, just in case he didnt change them and ****...

 

Most of that is labor? HAH! Yeah right, that's total bs man.

 

Yeah, you definitely got ripped off. First off, that shouldn't even be close to $600... not even $200. Spark plugs cost about a dollar each, and the wires go for maybe $30-40 for an OEM set. Seems he also replaced the valve cover gasket, but that's definitely not $30.

What the hell is the fourth listing underneath "Temperature Coolant Sensore?" Looks like he just scribbled gibberish and wrote a price next to it. Does it say "OIS Potorie?" WTF. The only thing that looks fair on that bill is the price for the catalytic converter at around $100. But now that I think about it they probably just pulled one off a car at a junkyard for $20.

****, they have the ******* audacity to charge those prices for labor. I can do all that work in about an hour with just hand tools and a jack. They probably have lifts and air tools, so I bet they did all that work in about half an hour. They charged $300 for a ******* half hour of work? Nobody's work is worth that much. How the hell does unbolting 4-5 bolts for a catalytic converter cost $45?

I'd say find OEM honda prices for the parts he used and bring that in with the bill, and ask, no, tell him to refund you for the stuff he overcharged you way too much for. Also, $300 labor is ridiculous, I'd fight him on that. Or take it to the BBB.

Sorry for the long post, shops like these are the reason why I do my own work on my car.

If you asked for them then and there and theyd idnt have them, that's AGAINST THE LAW. Now theyll have the benefit of the doubt.

yea...i was soo pissed and everything, i forgot to ask for them. I was at work...irritated...so my mom had to pick it up for me...
