Default Skunk2 versus Edelbrock versus Stock Intake Manifold

I'm considering getting a Skunk2 or Edelbrock intake manifold for my turbo D16Z6, but like everyone, I'm on a budget and wondering if I should just swap to a Y8 manifold or something. Is it worth the money to get a Skunk2 or Edelbrock?

The Skunk2 looks like a good piece but looks a lot like a stock Honda manifold while the Edelbrock looks like a really nice piece, much more different from a stock manifold.

here's some pictures to help out, i hope the links work:

Edelbrock

skunk2

I really appreciate any help. thanks in advance.

If you're on a budget the stock Y8 is probably the best option. If you can afford it go for the Edelbrock.

Yeah if you are running a low boost setup the Edelbrock wouldnt help you that much. Might as well stick with the Y8, and spend your money on a clutch or something.

I plan on using the stock Y8 manifold and throttle body for my setup with a goal of 300whp+.

its been dyno proven that the d16z6 mani makes more power than the y8 which is suppost to be better. I would stick with your stock mani.

I'd like to see that dyno, because I have seen dynos that prove the Y8 to be the better manifold.

well it was an all motor dyno. I think its on sohchonda.com, but i'm not sure. I know i've seen it before though.

do you have any boosted dynos of the comparison? I'd like to see them because it would make me feal better about my y8 mani

well ill be one of the only ones to say this, but on mine (b16a2) i prefer the the skunk 2 "im not only the owner, but im a user"............. so anyways, i have enough turbo lag without stepping up to a larger intake manifold. i have enough traction issues as is in the higher rpms, so i wanted more midrange power to higher range power. so i actually like my skunk2.

btw, my friend had a skunk2 and swapped to a jg (13-15 lbs of boost) and he said he didnt notice any difference

folks at d-series.org prefer the z6 IM over the y8,
i'll take their word for it.

thats for allmotor though.. duno maybe the y8 is good for boost or somethin.

the edelbrock would be nice over any of them imo. Hey its even got that nifty angle TB inlet

And im sure your friend didnt take it to the dyno to see if there was a difference either. The JG rapes the skunk2 up top, that is what makes it great for our high revving honda's. If I had the money I would save for the new full race or the AIR carbon Fiber (which basically has no heat soak at all).

I think I know the dyno you are talking about, I'll see if I can find it. I can tell you that you can feel better about your Y8 mani though. It has more plenum volume and more overall volume than the Z6 manifold. Runner length is nearly identical.

Everyone i know that had the edelbrock switched to skunk2 and picked up hp and tq with less lag as well.

Do you have the link to that thread. I think there's a link in it to the dyno we were talking about. I want to take a look at it again.

If you can wait a month or so I will do a post about the Edelbrock IM vs the Y8 IM vs Z6 IM. I will do a bunch of test on my flowbench...

I will also test each IM on a stock head vs a Fastech ported head.

Result to come soon.

You are going to find that the z6 manifold flows more cfm then the y8. We tested that a while back on a superflow.

i think we all know if you drive your car everyday, and pay as much attention to how it drives, you can feel when there has been a decent increase in power. now you wont see the numbers just by feeling if there is power there or not, but you'll know if it made your car faster....... not to mention he had the greddy kit, so that probably made a difference, over having a larger turbo.

I have the edelbrock IM on my Y7 not boosted yet... I did notice a change... Down low its weaker, but up top especially in 3rd gear it pulls harder...

Also for the edelbrock owners... I recieved a throtle cable bracket with mine... but I think they sent me the wrong one so I custom fabbed one... does anyone know if the Y8 bracket will work? I have to replace my throttle cable since the Y7 is too long so if the Y8 bracket works, i'll buy it while im at it..
