Default Gimme your best opinion ON a Motor for my car

Hi i'm new here. I've been looking for motors for my baby. I drive a 1998 Honda Accord and i'm in love with the damn thing but her engine has 200,000+ miles on it. i need to replace it but i don't know which motor to pick. i've looked at a bunch but i don't understand much about them yet. I want a new engine but i also want it to be a decently quick car. thanx

if you have a v6 accord, get a CL type S motor and tranny, w/ ecu, etc

if you have an i4 accord, get a h22, or another f23 (they are pretty cheap)

Well how much do you want to spend, and how "quick" do you want it?

EDIT: If you want to be unique, replace the F23 with a D16 or a 1 cyl. lawnmower.

b16.....errr

My Accord has 255k on it, runs fine. Of course it's my winter car and I never beat on it but if I did, I'm sure it could take it...maybe you should look into turboing your current engine or something....just a thought.

Hey man, 200K is still young for a honda! Honestly, I'd keep using that engine until it bites the dust - I'll bet you'll get another 100K with regular maintence. Otherwise, H22 is always a good swap. Good luck!

h22 is great unless if you want boost and are on a budget.. but if you dont waant boost the h22 is a great motor you will wanna change the tranny h22 revs too high for the stock tranny

Ok i've read up on some engines and a new one caught my eye. I saw a K20a that was put into a new lotus race car. and it walked all over porsche (excuse spelling ) so i was looking into that cause i'm pretty sure no one mentioned that engine. i guess no one knows about it yet cause its new or what not. but look it up and give me your opinion. thankx.

it's probably because a lotus is light as hell, that's why it's so fast with a k20a, the 6th gen accords are heavier so dont expect that kinda speed IF you ever put in a k20a (it probably work unless you pay lots of $$$ for custom fab work). Why not just pick an engine that you know will drop right in (like a h22, h23, or another f23)?

Be original. Make mounts for a K24, install and turbo it. You will be one FAST accord.

It's not because we didnt' know about it, it's because it's too damn expensive, nor is it practical. I don't know about Accords but I know a lot of people are dropping them into Integras and they are having two issues.

1. The oil pan hangs dangerously low
2. $$$$$ VERY expensive as far as engine swap goes...I'm talking over 5k.

Other than that, the k series is a far superior engine to the b or h series. With bolt ons, those engines can hit 240 whp.

ok. well is the 240 whp after all mods that can be done to it. or (hopefully not and i'm probably carzy to ask this) is it all the horse power it can create. Accord sit up a little bit higher than the integra's and i'm gonna put 18's or 19's on my car. it should sit up high enough. i hope. i'll do some more research on the engine but i got a long time before my engine dies so i'm in no hurry. i'm just exploring all of my options.

If you're going to put 18s or 19s on your car, the reason you must be getting a swap is so the speed stays the same.

Hint: The larger the wheel, the heavier, the larger rotational mass, thus slower car. Thats why race cars have lighter wheels.

Unless youre talking a BRAND NEW accord I wouldnt try the K series swap. You COULD get a DOHC F22 or an H23, theyre basically the same, and try and boost one if you dont want to do the whole H22 deal...

Those mods I mentioned are bolt ons...i/h/c/e and a flash ECU. Sure you can do more like a turbo. I was just showing the superiority that the k-series has over all other honda engines. It's just a better all around engine.

You are missing the fact that displacement ownz all. Have you driven the type-s rsx? the powerband would suck for a heavy boat of an accord.

No replacement for displacement. No way around it.

h22 hauls and the power to weight ratio ownz. accords with h22s get the job done.

Bah, I don't know what the Accord weighs...at least the different trims...I'm more familiar with Integras. But the RSX S weighs in at over 2700 pounds.

dont mean to bust everybodys bubble but my 93 accord coupe with i/h/e and 50 shot of nos beat a rsx at the track awhile back not by much but i did beat it so im not that impressed in stock form and it would be a major pain to put the k20 into a accord in my opinion would not be worth it your looking at 5000 just for the motor and then custom fab work to put it in plus electronics to make it run to much money i would go with the h22 and addons and the accord will be quick or turbo charge the f23 drop the 5000 into one of these and youll be way ahead of the game just my opionin thx ray.

The motor I have in my 2000 Accord is a vtec, is that normal for 2k accord? Is this the F23 Engine?

all 98 - 02 accords (except DX model on sedans) have vtec

if you have a 4 cylinder engine, it's a f23
if you have a v6, it's a j30

*this is for 98-02 accords btw
