Default My doors wont open because its COLDDDDDD

I've got the remote door locks and they dont unlock the driver or passenger side doors when its really cold out (less than 10 degrees). I had to climb through the rear hatch today The key doesnt go all the way either so I cant manually unlock it. Any tips?

aright i'll try that. The wierd thing is that its not like it rained and then froze my door, its just so cold that the door lock motors wont work.(at least I think thats what the problem is)

Almost seems like you need a new battery, or power lock motor. I have remote power locks in my integra and they've worked in 20 below very consistently.

What do you mean by your key doesn't go in far enough?

Get some of the door lock de-icer

You can get it in any gas station, grocery or hardwarestore this time of year

basically there is water that got in your lock and froze it.

use lock de-icer

or, improvise:
hold your key in your hand till it's hot, put it in as far as you can, repeat. this can take a couple of minutes (you can also exhale on it or put a lighter to it) but works in a bind.

what you need to do to prevent this in the future is spray a good lubricant directly in the keyhole (such as silicone lube for example), and then apply grease or another lubricant to the rubber seals around the doors - to prevent water from staying there and freezing, which is what causes the problem in the first place.

Hmm we have had temps in the single digits around here, especially right before Christmas, but I haven't really had any problems with my locks. The only problem I had was the first day it got above freezing after our Christmas freeze, I washed my car, and then that night I guess there was moisture on the door lock mechanisms in the doors, which froze, and kept the locks from unlocking. Other than that I've had no problems.

i'm getting real good at this technique...i even take my shoes off and throw them upfront...

as far as replacing the solenoids you're crazy, it's cold out and water freezes in the locks, just use lock deicer, grease em, or use a air compressor to blow out the locks before bringing it back outside....

lol, it definately puts you in your place. Then after letting the car warm up for 10 minutes then the 3 minute ride to school, the drivers side door STILL wasnt warm enough to open. I ended up having to climb over the shifter console and leave through the passenger door in the school parking lot

i used to hold a lighter to my key and then insert it and give it a few seconds. Probably not the best way...lol, but it worked for quick deicing

It's nice how Bay Area CA doesn't really have these types of problems.
