Default ..... Thermostat. How Do You Change Em?......

I feel retarded for even asking this question. Ive done everything from tranny swaps to shifter installs and even a turbo setup but I have never thought about or attempted to replace my thermostat..

Well being in Canada it gets cold as ****, and for the last 2 months my cars been taking a long time to worm up, I thought it would just be because it was cold out, but today I tried to use my heater and it didnt start blowing hot air, tried again after work after a 10 min warm up and still nothing (only 2 miles home)

So Im thinking my thermo is sticking open or whatever.

The car is a 88 Crx and I dont even know where the thermostat sits. Also what kind do I have to buy for winter driving, wanting the car to heat up and blow hot air as quickly as possible.

Like are they just labelled as Honda thermos or are they all the same?

Anyone have any pics or little guides I can peek at

I plan on running no thermo in the summer when I drop in the built motor and turbo but I need some warmth in this Canadian bullshit

Thanks

Follow you lower radiator hose up to where it meets the motor. That is the thermostat housing. There will be 2 10mm bolts you will have to undo and then pull off the housing. Then pull out the thermostat replace it with the new one, and put the housing back on and put the 2 10mm bolts back in. Wallah

Now about buying one, anything special for Hondas?

I guess Im looking for one with a higer temp, like itll say 185* on the package right? no special mumbo jumbo language

When you're done be sure the ground wire connection at the t-stat is clean and tight.

I wonder if that's why my fan never kicks on and my idle sucks. It never gets warm enough for the fan and my idle stays a little high even after adjustment. How much coolant needs to be replaced?

Coolant level has to be completely full.. u will know this when the coolant spills out of the radiator. then start the car and allow it to warm up and add coolant as it goes along this will help bleed the cooling system with air

I honestly searched and didnt find that thread there man

Ok so the thermo is easy, now what about coolant drainage and complete refill

Might as well for a few more bucks

Turn the car off, let it cool down for an hour, and theres a drain valve at the bottom correct? or can I just pop off a hose? drain out all the coolant

put the plug back in

insert 3-4L of 50/50 coolant/water until it overflows?

Turn the car on with the rad cap off until the water starts to bubble or what?

Thanks guys

2 questions...

1) Blowing out "Warm" air....not as hot as it used to be, could it be the thermostat?

2) Are all D-series thermostats the same?

could be the thermostat sticking a little bit. could be some wear on your heater core.
could have a air bubble in the system
