Solo II class question
I have either run in GS or CSP in my ITR and GSR and now that I have put the Mugen suspension on the ITR it will fall in the CSP class. Well, the ITR in CSP is out classed by the lightweight CRX's. So, I am considering the Street Touring (STX) class BUT I still want to use my R-compound Kuhmos. My question is, what is the specific class in ST with R tires? Thanks.
None (as far as I know).
I plan on running my R in STX. Sure, you have to give up the R compound - but it gives us a place to play and be competitive...

STR was dropped for 2002 - lack of interest. Even if it were still around the ITR would not qualify due to the no LSD restriction.
So, STX on street tires or SM and CSP for race tires.
Get some nice cams and make the jump to prepared, then you can run real race slicks (not DOT approved ones).

STX
1) All allowances in STS would carry over, including street tires, rim restrictions,
emissions, etc.
2) All restrictions regarding body type carry over.
3) Engine size allowance: up to 5.1, normally aspirated and 2.0, forced induction
(single turbo or supercharger).
4) Only factory limited slip differentials (LSD) are allowed on AWD vehicles, as defined in Section 12.4. For 2WD vehicles and AWD vehicles that did not come
with any type of limited slip differential (including center differential or transfer case), a single aftermarket LSD may be added.
5) High flow catalytic converters are allowed, but must attach within six inches
of the original unit.
6) Alternate motor mounts and/or engine locators (bobble struts) sold by the
vehicle's manufacturer or their Motorsports subsidiary or affiliate
(Chrysler / Mopar, Toyota / TRD, Honda/Mugen, etc.) are allowed.
7) Alternate driver and front passenger seats are allowed, but they cannot be
constructed of a solid outer shell and must have a suspended bottom cushion
and be fully upholstered.
8) Brake rotors and calipers are unrestricted, but must attach to the original
attachment points.
9) Additionally excluded cars: BMW M3 (E36 and E46), BMW M5 (all).

From an interpretation stand point that's a tough question. You ARE allowed an engine swap based on the SM rules AS they are written, but with the rules BASED on the SP class structure and modifications list, that would mean a cam swap is NOT allowed. BUT putting a set of ITR cams in your B16/B18 motor would be from the same manufacturing line so....
Basically it's anybody's guess at this point...
I'd let it slide in our region

cam swaps are most definately allowed in street mod. The only requrement is that the engine be from the same manufacturer as the chassis. I know a fellow with a 300hp 83 Celica that runs (legally) in SM. It has a custom turbo, cam, etc. You name it. The car also passes the IM230? emissions tests with room to spare (the one that is done under load on a dyno).

SM rules:
Drivetrain and related components (induction, ignition, fuel systems, etc.) are unrestricted except for the following limitations:
Engine must be from the same manufacturer as the body (Toyota/Lexus, Nissan/Datsun, Honda/Acura, etc.) Swaps involving makes related only at corporate level (e.g. Ford/Volvo, Renault/Nissan) are not recognized.
Maximum displacement:
Forced induction -
3.0L (OHC engines)
4.0L (pushrod engines)
Normally aspirated -
6.0L
Rotary engines (all) -
1.5L
