Potenza RE010 (OEM Type R tire).....opinions?
What does everyone think of the OEM Type R tires, the Bridgestone Potenza RE010? I did some reading on Tire Rack and they seem to be a fairly sticky tire, but many complain that they shred through them in 20,000 miles or less. They're also pretty pricey, at $130/tire. (I can get two Azenis, or two Ecsta Supra 712s)
I'm currently on 205/55R15 tires and they rub in the fenderwells with my 0.75" drop. The dealer advised me to get either a 205/50R15 or the stock 195/55R15.
The rubbing is getting pretty bad...to the point that I'm through the fenderlining and touching metal when the steering wheel is at lock.

in my personal humble opinion, they are the best tires (non-track) i have ever driven on for stock itr wheel size (15x6.0). although they are expensive, their dry grip is excellent. some others report decent performance in the rain, but from what i remember when i had them, they were a little *uneasy* in the rain.
yeah, they do wear out fast. but then again, that's somewhat of a trade-off for such grippy tires.
there's a reason why they were OEM on both the itr AND nsx.

what size rim do you have? im pretty sure lots of people here have larger tires/wheel combos and dont rub even with a slight drop like you have.
as far as the RE010 goes, its fairly "sticky" and like any tire if you beat the **** out of it then its not going to last too long, hence ~20K miles. if we are talking about mounting these on stock ITR sized rims, then 195s seem to have better turn in.

I actually have a GS-R coupe, but I have a full ITR suspension setup (LCAs, springs, shocks, F&R strut bars). This drops me to an ITR ride height basically.
I have Continental ContiExtremeContact tires right now...got them about 16 months ago when I used to live in the Midwest. They're an "all-season ultra-high performance" tire.
I want something stickier and not quite as wide. The OEM ITR tires seemed to be a good place to start, but I'm open to other suggestions. $130/tire is fine, as long as I know I'm getting my money's worth. I need something sticky for the twisty mountain roads.

Nah it's all fine, I actually took it to the dealer and he said that a 205/55R15 is too wide for a Type R (or car with Type R suspension). The tech recommended 205/50R15 or the stock 195/55R15 sizes.

Excellent tire for overall performance, particularly for razor sharp handling. Treadlife is decent (20K is actually pretty good). Price is higher than some other tires. My first choice for street driving the ITR (in the stock 195/55-15 size). RE010

A 205/55 tire should be no wider than the same tire in a 205/50 size. However, some tires tend to run wider than their width rating would otherwise indicate (e.g., the Azenis).

Maybe you should learn to read, stunna. I said RIM not tire. By the way, nice contribution to the thread

How?
If the tire tread is supposed to be 205 mm wide, then it's supposed to be 205 mm wide, regardless of aspect ratio...
