4spd to a 5spd
Hey I was wondering if I need new axels if I install a 5spd into my 1990 civic hb. It currently has a 4 spd. If I do need new axels what would be good axels to get. Also what are your preferences in exhaust systems
they are different but they will work. all you have to do is change out one of the axle seals. i don't remember if it is the passenger or the drivers side that you have to change out, but all you need to do is just cross reference part numbers and you should be able to find out at any auto place like auto zone, pep boys, ect...

hf/std axles are the same, but different from dx/si axles. so i guess if you wanted an hf tranny, which is a 5 speed, it would work perfectly, but get ready for really long gears.

I hope you got the Si 5 speed. HF gears are nice for MPG, long as heck but the Si's gear ratio is comparable to the EX/Si hyrbids that a lot of people do.
My preference, I like GReddy. I'd recommend getting a local shop to do one though, much cheaper.

Yes they are, but they are only different on the hub side.
They will plug into the 5 spd tranny no problem... well.. unless it's a ZC tranny.
ZC tranny has the different diff. Change out the diff and you can use your stock axles (do not use the ZC intermediate shaft).

Preludes either came with
b20a=pre91 preludes
92-on either h23 or h22
Since your car has a d series none of these transmissions will bolt to your motor.
Here is a rule of thumb:
d series with d series
b series with b series
and so on...
