advice for this setup - b16 / chipped p28... and much mo'
i bought a ek hatch off ekninespooner about 3 - 4 months ago. and im to the point where i NEED to get the car tuned. the fumes within the cab are making me light headed, lol.
here is the setup the car has:
b16a - odb2 to odb1 conversion
chipped p28 ecu - currently running an altered skunk2 program
ctr throttle body
ctr intake manifold
short ram intake
jasma 4-2-1 header
skunk2 cat-back
skunk2 stage 2 cams
skunk2 retainers
skunk2 valve springs
buddy club cam gears
aem fuel rail and regulator
stock injectors
stock fuel pump
NOTE: THE CAR WAS NEVER TUNED FOR ITS CURRENT SETUP.
symptoms:
1) running very rich
2) top end from 2nd to 5th is weak. 1st gear however, is great.
3) bad idle, dies if i dont give it gas. usually does this if the car sits overnight, or if its been sitting for a long period, like after work. after the car is warmed up, sometimes the idle will be very low, sounding like the car is going to stall, but it never does after its warm.
4) strong gas smell within cab, this may be due to a bad cat for all i know. but its surely alot worse from when i first got the car. at one point, it literally smelled like rotting eggs.
5) CEL! ( oh no's! ) the cel i get is a code 10, which is a bad iat sensor... but ive replaced it. yet, the cel still occurs.
a lot of my problems could be due to the ecu setup itself. like i said above, i bought the car with all this stuff already done to it, so i have no clue what exactly is done to the ecu. i know its chipped with an altered skunk2 program, but i have no clue with what system/setup. i do know its not hondata, nor uberdata. but its surely chipped.
my main question is, how do i go about getting this thing tuned to its BEST ability. i would like to go the turbo route, but for now i want to work with what i have.
what do i need to do to get this bastard running the way its meant to. should i go with uberdata and a wideband? should i just take it to a place and get it dynotuned asap?
but how would they read the rom and reprogram it if their not sure of the setup.
im just looking for the best way to get this car running to its ability. its a great car, i do not want to rid of it. please help!

i searched around a bit and found this post:

my car is exactly like that. it will bog at times between gears and also when engaging vtec. instead of a smooth transition, its delayed a bit.
would getting a vafc and having it dyno tuned solve the richness problem? as well as the horrible idle. my guess that the ecu is dumping way too much fuel. cause i get all kinds of black smoke.

do you have something to tune it with? best bet would be to get a s-afc and get the fuel adjusted lower on the bottom end and raise it top end. set the FPR at stock pressure and check from there.

I have been having the same issues with the sporatic idle and such on my 99si. I suspect it has something to do with vaccuum leaks involving the intake manifold, (mine is a sk2). Let me know if you figure this out.

actually, i remembered some info on my car.
its already setup for neptune.
im just gonna take it to hrtuning and have james dyno tune it when he has an opening. wootness.
