nippon motors??
I was wondering if anyone has bought an engine from them. Im looking at their ZC swap package but wanted some feed back before going with them.
Also, I have a dpfi dx civic. Should I convert it to mpfi first by buying an SI intake and parts. Or do most places give you the intake and fuel system with the engine?
Thanks

I bought a motor from them and it had a hole in the oil pan and a crack in the valve cover, not to metion that it was missing half of the sensors.. when I told them they basically told me that I was out of luck. I would not buy a motor from them or would I not suggest anyone getting one from them

One disgruntled customer.
I am still driving my B16 from Nippon Motors. Motor was perfect, I just didn't hook up the ground and that is why the motor didn't start at first. Right now it's just seeing it's age. Compression is wearing out in cyls 3 & 4. I have had the swap for over 2 years and it's my daily D. I can't complain. Especially how I drove it when I first got it. The engine has been good to me.
I would recommend Nippon Motors. The only difficulty (which in reality wasn't, just nit picking) was the oriental accent the representative had over the phone. (told you it wasn't a problem).
Nippon Motors:
Hmotors:
One CRX with a B16 complete changeover from Hmotors, vtec solenoid went, then gasket, then other misc parts went on the motor. Probably could have gone to customer service, but the fact that the motor was practically falling apart didn't help.
The other CRX. ZC swap. Was told he was getting a ZC with the Brown Valve cover (not an automatic). Ends up getting an automatic ZC and wonders why the car doesn't feel like it has much more power than the Stock D16a6. Funny part is that the engine did have a Black valve cover, instead of brown. Looks like we were tricked.
Only thumbs up so far is a recent H22a purchase that hasn't had too many problems and everything feels right. Don't feel tricked or like the motor is going to fall apart.
So based on what I have heard, and then what my actual experience has been, I would go to Nippon before I ever went to Hmotors. But that's just me.

All importers are going to have good stories and bad ones. I personally know one guy who went through HELL with Hmotors. I've had more good luck than bad with Nippon - In the half-dozen engine swaps I've bought from them, in addition to well over a dozen ZC tranmissions, I've had exactly one that wasn't what I wanted or ordered. The first ZC tranny I ordered, I specified a '90-'91, and told them I wanted to be sure it was a 20-spline input shaft. They sent me an '88...
When I told them about it, they sent out the replacement that day. I had to pay shipping ($85), but they told me to keep the wrong tranny as well. I didn't have much use for it at the time, but it did end up getting built into a hybrid tranny...
As far as broken sensors, I have yet to see an engine from ANY importer that has an intact TPS on it. I picked up a load of B16s at Nippon - drove there myself and hand picked them - and every single one already had a broken TPS. Any more, I look at the TPS as something I *will* have to replace when I buy or sell an engine. When I make a junkyard run, I'll usually grab 3 or 4 TPSs just to have around.

When you are dealing used motors, there are a lot of things that can go wrong. Those companies have no idea what the previous owner did to the car, or what happens during shipping.
What it does come down to is customer service. I have heard nothing but good things about Hmotors. Like if something breaks, they send out a replacement same day. Another indicator is how fast they ship things, and what they do to the product prior to shipping. I have never heard good nor bad about nippon, but with Hmotors, I know they clean their engines before they send them out.
As to your original question, when you buy longblock, it means that it does not come with tranny, ecu, axles, etc. It does come with intake mani, exhaust mani, sensors, dizzy, fuel rail, and all that good stuff.

i heard bad things about nippon...i got my b16 from hmo and everything looked fine, sensors seem to be in place, they even have a sensors garanteed working and start up warranty...price also reasonable

Even though what I said was true, there is no excuse for sending something with a bunch of crap missing. That can be controlled by the dealer

I love to reply to these...hmotors screwed me on a tranny. If it sounds deviant, it's not, but it sucked all the same. The following is an account from my point of view.
I called to order (3) 89-91 ZC trannys on a Friday. Quoted me a great price that included intermediate shafts but he wasn't in the shop and asked me to call back Monday. I don't get a hold of him until Tuesday. Then the price had changed and the intermediate shafts are no longer included. And shipping was going to be $100 each. I now know you can ship a tranny all over the country for sub $65.
That blows. I only needed one so thats all I ordered. Emphasized I wanted a 90-91 but an 89 would work. He insisted on COD because it's under $500. He says it'll ship out the following Friday morning and then it'll take 3-4 business days. I called Friday to get tracking info...I kind of need to know when to be home because of his stupid COD. Can't reach him, try several times. Try again the next week...leave vmails...nothing. It takes me two weeks to get a hold of him again. He insists it had shipped but he's not in the office to get me tracking info. Says he'll call me back but he doesn't. This goes on several more times for a couple weeks.
I give up and order through another company..since it's COD, I'm not out anything.
Well then the stupid tranny shows up. The person who answers the door isn't aware of the mixup...I had left an envelope w/cash for a COD tranny and there it was. He handed over the cash and took the crate. Oh well. But get this...it was shipped four days earlier. A full four weeks after I initially ordered it. And the the bastard swore it had already shipped everytime I talked to him.
Since it showed up first, my buddy and I tried to put it in the middle of Texas heat in July. It would not go. No way. Beat on it for hours. Finally gave up...then we thought to count the spines. It was an '88 tranny with the wrong number of frickin splines. Destroyed my clutch splines too.
In the mean time, the other companys tranny shows up an installs fine.
So I call Hmotors back. Forget the shipping debacle. I just want what I paid for. I explain the problem...his mistake...but he refused to entirely own up to it. Blamed his workers, Honda engineering, DB Cooper etc but he wasn't resonsible.
He offered to send another but I had to pay to ship the old one back. He offered to let me keep the '88 if I buy another ZC tranny and he would pay shipping on that one. Or pay shipping on another new ZC and then ship the '88 back. Everything involved me spending at least $75 more bucks. And he made a big point of insisting that he get all the mounts and starter back when it was returned. I basically said you suck and I'll bad mouth all over the online community for such shitty customer service.
So here I am. Apparently they'll take good care of you as long as the profit margin justifies it, not because its the right way to do business.
