Suggestions on the stock 8" inch sub??
Okay I have a fully loaded luda with the stock 8 inch sub in the back seat. I recently replaced all my 4 side speakers with 4way sonys, and the tweeters too. Sounds alright but it needs more bang. I don't want to get a box, I just want to replace the stock 8" sub. Any suggetions? And also will any 8 inch sub fit there? Or do I have to look for certain ones?
My car doesn't have an amp yet, so perhaps I don't even need a sub but just to amp my car to make the OEM 8" sub sound better? The 4 other speakers I installed are hogging the power I know that. Anyway I've tried searching with no luck. Suggestions?

Yeah, its a 6 x 9 sub.. there are only a few replacements on the market (its not one of the typical 2-way or 3-way full-range 6 x 9's you see everywhere). Also, I believe it has its own small amp, but I never went hunting for it myself.
I have heard of a few people finding a replacement, but the improvement hasn't been great. Also, if yours is anything like mine, the factory enclosure is pretty poor and rattles a lot even with the oem speaker.
If you want a sub and aren't looking for deafening sound, I'd suggest getting an 8 or a 10 inch sub and amp and putting it in a small sealed box. This will give you the cleanest sound without taking up a lot of space (the trade-off is that you don't get maximum dB's)
If you really don't want a box and are only looking for a small bump in sound, look at combo unit like the infinity basslink.
Also, this question is probably more applicable in the audio forum, so don't be surprised if this thread gets locked or moved.

Sorry if this is in the wrong forum. It's sound, but prelude specific. So the stock sub between the seats isn't a 8 inch? It's a 6X9? All I want is a little more thump out of it.
Where is this "sub" at? I saw in the helms manual its behind the center seat thing or somewhere in the back seat....searched up and down and could never find it. Is it only on the VTEC? I have a special edition...
But "rattling" was coming from the OEM speakers...the rubber surround had completely disintegrated. Replaced them with 6.5" infinity kappas.

my car has some kenwood 6x9 sub I believe(was in there when I bought the car), it actually sounds pretty good if you have an amp powering the system, with just the headunit it was very underpowered and sounded terrible.... maybe if you guys are interested I can check what model it is....

Yep, its only in the VTEC models, its set in between the two back seats nearly even with the seat back. The rattle in mine comes from the plastic grille/cover over the speaker itself, so I am sure if I changed the speaker or upped the power it would sound terrible. Of course this could just be a problem for my car as a result of age/deterioration.

It's just a 6x9 with a tiny amp and crossover under it. just get a box. Apparently at some time Kicker made a 6x9 sub...you can look into it, but I don't think the tiny amp will drive it anymore then.
in a few days, I'm getting ready to have a custom install on my 92. I'm going to have an Infinity Kappa 6x9 3-way vertically mounted between the seats, above the awkward compartment, and then another 6x9 Kappa 3-way mounted horizontally above the vertical, between my two Reference 6.5" on the back beneath the rear windshield. I have an Alpine deck with Reference 6.5's and tweeter's up front. The clarity is amazing, but bass, and full range of sound is lacking (on just the 4 6.5's and tweeters).
I have a Phoenix Gold 2-channel amp delivering 80w RMS to the two, hoping that is enough to keep me from purchasing added weight, a sub, for the gutted trunk.
Once install is complete, I'll have pics posted to my cardomain page, user ID "fenominal."

The Infinity Kappas aren't really meant for bass. I notice very low bass response with them, they are just extremely good for mids and highs. If you want bass I suggest JBL Power 652's.

get rid of the shitty sony speakers u put in, first off they are made of terrible materials, and a 4 way is ****** useless, the 4th tweeter only puts out sounds that u cant even hear which wastes power.
try to put two ways or if possible 1 way speakers in the back, highs coming from the back are useless and could do more harm than good. Focus most of your money on your front speakers though, for instance, I have MB quart Discus 6x9's in the rear of my lude and MB quart premiums in the front (the premiums are 2 levels above the discus which means that 75% of the money I spent on my speakers was on the front.)
you could try and find an old kicker rmb69 (reference mid-bass 6x9) they havent been made in yrs, but it wont work off of the factory amp anyway, the only thing that will is the factory 6x9.
Just invest the money in better midrange speakers, and then at least amp your fronts.

dont waste your money, as previously stated, the bass out of the kappa 6x9's isnt that good, and you are just going to move your imaging to the rear of the car which is going to kill the sound quality. yould have most of your music coming from the rear of your car, which is as logical as going to a concert and truning around backwards away from the stage the whole concert. if the kappas were bass speakers they wouldnt be 3-ways.
if anything pay to get a free air 8" sub put in the factory location, and then power it with your phoenix gold amp.

Your best replacement is a Kicker 6x9 subwoofer but good luck on finding one of those. These Kicker are no longer made so your best bet is on Ebay( i'v seen them there before).
I know this isn't audio forum... but... yeah.
On my 4th gen, I replaced the 6x9 with a 380 (could be 350, I forgot) watt Pioneer 6x9 powered by a Pioneer amp. That thing pounds like a BEAST. I don't experience any rattling unless I make the woofer work above nominal.
Kind of drifting the main topic but...
I used to run 2 12"s along with that 6x9, but once I blew out my factory amp, I sold my subs & just amp'd my 6x9.
My setup before I sold my subs were: (everything is pioneer)
2 tweeters (front) 120 watt
2 6.5" (front) 120 watt
2 6.5" (rear) 140 watt
1 6x9 (rear-center) 380 (or maybe 350) watt
2 12" 800 watt subs - 400 nominal, powered by 2 pioneer 760 watt amps.
How did it sound? Pretty god damn sweet. I had a very nice balance of treble & bass. I miss those subs.
I have a single pioneer 6x9 if you're interested. I think it's something like 240 watt? Send me a PM.
I'll tell you one thing though. When you have a sub, or more in the back... that 6x9 is useless, but still very good by itself.
