good luck with your new project...
I feel your pain, and can tell you it will only hurt when you see other crx's, I just parted ways with my ef hatch and everytime I see it I miss it, but at least mine went to my little brother who will drive it until there is just no hope whatsoever left in it...

they always come back...always.

Can't say I'd take it over a CRX, but I'd sure as hell rock a Ghia. They're pretty, they're a good design, and they're just *timeless*. That car, which was designed in the freaking 1950s, still looks good today. Hell, it still looked good when it was being new sold in the US in the 70s, if you could take off the stupid giant bumpers that were required on it towards the end...
Have fun with the Ghia, but don't forget the CRX. When you want a CRX for what it's *really* for (hint: FWD + drag = bad combo), be sure to come back.

haha remember what u did when ur under the ghia trying to fix it. those things are just as reliable as a screen door in a submarine.
i have heard so many horror stories but hey it comes down to what u like.

As for reliability... well, it IS an old car - but hey, so are most of our CRXs.
It's an air-cooled VW engine. Hard to get much simpler than that. After all, it IS an outgrowth of what was originally the "people's car" ("Volkswagen" in German means "People's Car"). It was designed for simplicity first. I grew up around a few VWs, made a few cross-country trips in them (seriously - Maryland to California in a VW bus with six people and a load of crap in it), travelled through the Mojave desert a couple times in them in the summer, and never broke down. Just about any problem really could be solved with bailing wire and pliers.
Stock, VWs aren't fast. If you can get one to 140hp in a body that weighs 1700 lbs, though, it's going to be a quick little car. Watch out for "terminal oversteer", though - that engine hanging out the *** end really sets things to swinging when the cars starts losing traction!

My best bud in high school had one of those. They are a blast to drive, lots of good memories in that car. As Kwicko said, they are old cars but in it's day, very reliable. Jus like the VW. FWIW, Corky Bell said in his book about turbo's that a turboed VW could hit 0-60mph in a hair under 3 sec! Also remember that it is air cooled, be carefull with the juce.
