is it worth it?
Hey guys, i bought a 00 prelude about six months ago and i am planning on swapping the tranny to manual. I have added aem cai and greddy exhaust w/ 2.25" piping. My dilemma is either changing the tranny to manual..or buying a different car that is around $16k. But ultimately, in the end i would want my car to be 245whp +. Would it be possible to have a lude that is 245whp+ w/o adding turbo//nos?
to anwser your question yes you would be able to achieve your goal but it will cost you a lot of money and time...and i would rather start off with a manual, then waiste my time converting it to manual.
All motor is a tough order to fill (reliably/inexpensively) but if youve got the money, 245 is possible. and i mean it when i say: "money"
But since you seem to know what you want out of your N/A buildup, be sure that that Auto tranny will make it an impossibility.
My rationale: If you can afford the 5speed lude, remove the parts you put on the AT one you've got now and replace the oe parts. Pick up the 5speed and start researching and build up the motor/tune it. Doing a conversion will just take you about 2000 dollars away from the goal you're trying to hit (245hp n/a). Moreover, the reliability of the conversion does come into question when youre trying to pull every bit of power out of the motor.
Good luck!
ps. do a search (in the archives) about "h22 na buildup" or something to that tune. you'll probably find that supercharging and efficiently tuning that motor will yield a safe 245 or maybe more and cost less.
