Install guys or Civic people that have put door speakers in... please help!
What are the magic numbers for depth space and diameter? I contacted Tweeter today and they said not much room to put a deep speaker in and the door opening is only 6" and not 6.5" like some say. Anyone know what dimension speakers I can fit in there without custom mods? I want to get DLS or CDT pieces which have a rather large basket and are true 6.5's.
I had 6.5" Kenwood coaxs in the doors of a '97 Civic sedan I owned a few years ago... I don't remember having to modify anything to get them in.
Oops! Make that triaxs or 3-ways... Kenwood KFC-1687's.

virtually nothing will fit without some custom work. Cut out the rain guard and a lot more speakers wiil fit. A true 6.5" likd a dls should fit with minor modification under the factory grill with minor work.
Diamonds fit with just a bit of cutting. Honda f u c k e d us with those doors, so to add more options, just do some cutting. Then use seom screws to attach the speakers to the plastic by drilling your own holes.

I'm telling ya... I installed those Kenwoods in a Circuit City parking lot on the way to a football game. I dropped by CC to get some harness adapters so I could just plug 'em up real quick. I modified nothing, did no custom work.

All I can find online other than the 6½" size is a listing of 1-15/16" mounting depth.
These speakers mounted in the Civic doors with no mods... they are now residing in the doors of my daughter's '98 Accord EX Coupe V6 with no mods.

Here is the specs on the DLS Iridiums: http://www.dls.se/english/index.htm
2.56" depth and 5.51" hole. May be a real PITA!
If I get the CDT 6.5's: http://www.cdtaudio.com/drivers_overview.htm
2.75" depth and 5.6875" hole. Even more of a pain!
What mods do you think I will need? I am going with one of these. I am leaning towards the CDT's but if it is a mounting pickle then the DLS will work too.

depth reducer is just a fancy way of saying mdf ring - a donut out of wood - you can just cut one with a jig saw.
the DLS would probably be a hell of a lot easier to fit in there because it has a tiny magnet and basket. If you want high performance sound, you gotta mod those doors a bit.

depends.....cut the rain guard out and be careful when you mount the driver and they should fit without a problem....then again, I fit 7" drivers with almost 3" of depth with the factory grill still attached

CDTs are nasty to get in the doors. I have the HD 6.5 component mids and they took a .75 MDF baffle to fit properly. Do the "custom work" though it is worth it. For $10 in materials and an hour of your time you can have far better sound. Now what I do recommend is to throw some dynamat around where the baffle is going and then fill any further gaps between the ring and the door with silicone caulk to close up any air leaks around the baffle. Also if you wanna spend a few more bucks do a layer of sound deadner on the door to decrease resonance and cover all the holes in the door for a true infinite baffle design.

maybe i need a differnet speaker cause i just picked up the rockford fosgate t162c new power 2 ways and that **** dont fit...... cut out the rain guard and the thing is still to small.. maybe get a smaller speaker and use one of those ring things... well see
My speaker did not fit with out the ring. The basket was to large and that is reason I needed the ring. Also it was quite close to the window as well.
Hit me up if you have ? Ill help if I can.
