Okay sometimes when go to start the car it would startup no problem. I can hear the main relay click and the fuel pump prime. However, most of the time when I try to start it won't start. The main relay won’t click on, i would have to keep trying over and over again until i can get it to click on or wait 5-10 min. I just replaced the main relay thinking it was the problem; however, it seems that it isn't.

Any ideas? This is for a 92 dx.

BTW when the relay doen't click the car will just crank and not turn over.

 

Check your clutch pedal switch. I had the same problem on my old one and the wires were messed up.

 

Sounds like it could be corroded wires around the clutch pedal area. Check the switch like mentioned above, and also for any signs of corroded or exposed wire.

 

Are u talking about the interlock switch located near the clutch pedal?

Just to clarify, you said when it doesn't start, it will just crank and not start? Or it doesn't do anything?

 

It'll just crank, sorry should have posted that.

 

When it's not starting, do you hear your fuel pump prime prior?

 

No, fuel pump won't prime when it's not starting.

Okay i just check the interlock switch and it seems fine. One think i just remembered before all this started happening, i had to do a alittle welding near the ecu which i didn't remove, could my ecu have taken a crap on me??

I am not 100% sure but I heard somewhere that is it not good to weld near the ecu, that could be your problem, someone please confrim this.

 

extreme heat + ECU = bad

 

no relay click = no spark no power to fuel pump.
earlier post said that you had changed the relay right? is it new or use?

 

Its brand new. Im going to check to see if theres spark and fuel tommorow. BTW the welding wasn't directly near the ecu it was just a feet or so off.

 

Would anybody know the symptoms of the relay not clicking???

 

check your wiring to the main relay. even though the main relay is new, it might have bad solder joints. recheck the solder joints if you know how to solder then you can resolder all the joints to be sure they good. if you are doing any soldering to your car, you need to disconnect the power and remove ecu if neccesary

 

Check the starter ground. I've it had happen once on both of my cars the wire breaks from the connector or is about to and start sometimes and doesn't because its a lose connection and you can't see it because the dust housing is over it. I put a new connector on it and it works like new again.
