Can I run 89 octane on a GSR?

jdm itr compression is at 11.1 and it can run on 91......

d16z6 is at ~9.1 and it can run 87

so usdm b18c1 is at 10.1... in the middle... would 89 run it?

You can run 89, but don't be cheap. Pay the 91 and feed that geezer correctly.
If you run 89 your car will still run but it might act funny.

I ran 89 and I had VTEC problems.

the computer will retard the timing if it starts to detonate, but its not designed for 89 and it will not be good for it

91 is better of course...

just be safe, and treat your ride right...its only like 10 cents more a gallon...

so thats like a buck... a fillup

you hopefully fillup like once a week...

so thats only 52 bucks a year to keep you car running that much better...

91 octane.

You shouldn't have bought a gsr if you plan to use 88 octane, it clearly says on the cluster and on the fuel door to use premium fuel only. Just trade it in or sell it and get a eg civic dx it will serve your surpose since your not into performance.

Off topic question: can u ever have too much octane in the car? Down here they sell 103 and 110 at certain gas stations... We use to run it in dirtbikes and our drag car but could it possible hurt a car... i know the 110 is leaded which will hurt o2 sensors correct?

I can't say it would HURT it because I'm not exactly sure, but the problem with to high of an octane is that it wont all burn off.

DO NOT use 89 for extended period of time. Back when I was looking for my GSR, I found a 95 with about 80k on it. The owner was an older guy who had the maintainence done but ran 89 for as long as he could remember. Car knocked really bad and ran like ****.

BLAH! I'm not being cheap!!!!!!
-----

the reason is, i just put a b18c1 in my civic.

my car has 3/4 tank full of 87 octane right now... since i wasnt planning on swapping, but i hydrolocked with it almost full.

so now i threw a b18c1 in it (well im doing it right now.. taking a break to eat)... well i wanted to know if i could make it to th gas station and such.

i bought a 102 or 108 octane booster.. but its not much and my engine is almost full... so im guessing it would put me around 90.... so i wanted to know the 89 just to be on the safe side. i hope is enough to get me to the gas station to get some premium.

well noone cares, everyone thinks i'm a cheap **** anyways. blah. i should have just syphoned the 87 out and put some 91 in the tank in the first place..
