H22 Tranny w/ LSD Problems... HELP
I recently had the lead Honda tech at my Honda dealer install a Quaife LSD into a H22 tranny. The bearings, shims, and axle seals were all replaced. 4th gear and the gear set had to be replaced also. I put the tranny in and he axles rotated forward but then locked up. I tried to go through the gears, but it won't go into some. There are the 2 shifter arms. The little one that changes between the 1-2, 3-4, and 5-R gear "rails" and then the big one that either shifts from 1-2 or 3-4 or 5-R. The little one only moves out (1-2 rail) and obviously middle (3-4 rail) BUT not in (5-R). When you move the little one out, it doesn't move the big arm to allow you to shift 1-2. When I pull the big arm out, it moves the little arm out and I can shift 1-2. I can't put the little arm or big arm in. WTF is wrong? I'm not a tranny guy and reason #1 why I had the Honda tech do it. Any ideas? I know the explanation might be confusting, sorry.

No one has ever had success doing it.
I believe Joel (satan_srv) can speak from experience as well.

You are correct.
Say the oem diff gave out on you, and you wanted to replace it with a (real
)
LSD, you couldn't
Edit: btw, I have the m2b4 tranny.
It's nothing special.
I'll be able to test it to its true limits later on this spring though when
I slap a set of drag radials on

I don't think it was a M2B4. If I remember correctly, before the LSD install, there was a bar when you looked into where the axles go in. I thought that ment it wasn't a LSD? I had the Quaife put in for someone, not mine. From what I've read, if it was a M2B4, it wouldn't fit anyway. The honda tech put it in with no problems that I know of. He isn't one to just throw something together either (he had us replace 4th gear and the gear set because it was worn and he said wouldn't last more than 3 months of hard driving).
The axles could be locked up due to axle bind as the tranny mount isn't on and we just have a jack under the tranny. The shifting is what concerns me right now.

yeah we tried with the M2B4....the diff would not physically fit in the M2F4 and the Quaife in the M2B4 required way too many shims to be safe.
Sounds like yours was not M2B4...I guess I would try the tranny mount attached first and see what's going on...

HA! Easy fix. Took 5 min. When he put the that top piece on the tranny with the little arm on it, the big arm wasn't centered. Each arm is either in, middle, or out. They both have to be in the middle when you bolt that top piece on. He had the big arm in and the little one middle. The difference in the big arm from in to middle and middle to out is very small (1/4"-3/8"). Easy mistake, easy fix. The axles spin fine now that the mount is on.
Thanks for the help guys. Now you know whats up if it happends to you
