Default What should I do?

Well I got most of the hoses/plugs off my mini me. Now I have gotten to the part that I am lost on. The actual removal of engine and tranny. So I talk to a local shop guy. He quotes me a price of $650 to do the swap. Thats taking the old min me out, putting the Y8 head on my new built Y8 block, taking off flywheel and installing it on new motor, installing clutch kit, and hooking everything back up. So basically $650 for labor....I need to learn to do this stuff to make some money.

They said it would take about 2-3 days.....me doing it probably take 2-3 weeks or longer....what would you do?

I would lower my insurance rate by switching to Geico.

Arrrgghhh!! Well, how about you have a "swap/meet" at your house and invite a bunch of knowledgeable HT members to help you do the work? Then you can repay them by ordering some pizza and drinks. Much cheaper than $650 if you ask me.

There you go, post it up in the "events/meets" thread and you'll get a good turnout!

How do they just pop out...what would keep them from popping out if you hit a bump to hard or something?

You need to remove the 32mm axle nut. You then need to remove the lower ball joint castle nut. Then separate the lca from the hub/spindle assembly. Then remove the shock fork. Then swing thehub assembly away from the axle. Then pry axle out. Maybe your first investment should be a helms service manual. This is all shown in it.

your suspention keeps them wedged in place. Take it off, and the axle falls on the floor.

i have a feeling he should just take the 650 in the ****. he's not mechnically inclined and he's going to F **** up. just looking out. easiest thing is the suspension if not rusted and old. hardest is the hoses and wiring.

im with this guy. 650 is a little steep, but you'll have your car back in 2-3 days, and you'll save yourself a lot of headaches.

will you learn how to do it? no. will you get it done right? probably.
