Default Better summer street tire: Yokohama AVS ES100 or Dunlop FM901

Here's the Tire Rack review based on customer input:

http://www.tirerack.com/tires/...00_=4

I have personally ran the FM901's, and I liked them (a little noisy though). However I have no experience with the ES100's.

Which do you guys prefer, BASED ON ACTUAL USAGE?

Not what your boy heard, or something like that. Actual experience with them on the street/track.

Tire size is 195/50/15 on a 15 x 6" wheel (GSR blades ).

i have the avs es100's on my blades and they are great for daily driving.
Most likely not the best tire for drag from my experience.
overall

ES 100s dont work all that great in autoxing but on a road corse they are great in rain too, but they start to loose alot of grip after ~10k

I have the Yokos on both of my cars and they are great for daily driving. My 91 HB has seen a few auto-x's with these tires and they seemed to have decent grip(although I personally have little experience with R compounds or just a very "sticky" tire in general). One thing I HIGHLY recommend is not driving them in the snow. HTH

I am running 205-40-17 ES100s and they are pretty grippy. Not as grippy as i would like, but they are good for the price. I've ran them for six months or so and tread wear is pretty good too. This has all been street driven, btw.

i am biased towards dunlops since my sport a2's have NEVER broke loose when i didnt FORCE them to and thats with a Mid-Rear car. ive heard the AVS is a good tire as well and comparable to the A2 but if you want a sticky tire moreso than a durable tire get the dunlop its got a stickier and softer compound than the AVS IIRC.

I'm currently using my ES100s for an all purpose tire

I went road racing (in the dry and in the rain) with them, i went drag racing with them, i'll be going auto-x with them and I'm currently driving in the snow with them.

I'm pretty happy with them.
(I advise you don't drive in the snow with them, though )

Im running 215/40/17 es100's on my teg. I was impressed with them when I first started using them but it seems like over time they have lost grip. They wear very slow and even but lately they have been breaking loose very easily on light takeoff's. For the price its a decent tire but I dont think ill buy them again.

i had a pair of es100's till the wires were showin...and personally...they had more grip on the street with wires showin than the fm901's i used to have had....on the track there terrible...if ur looking for a track tire i'd go with the fm901's but daily driving and a little street racing i'd go with the es100's...and u know how some ppl say that u shouldn't warm up street tires to get more grip...i dunno if its all true or not...but i'll be damned if burnin the **** out of the es100's didn't let me dump the clutch at 6k on my gsr and grip....

es100's all the way

fm901 is all around a better tire, lasts longer and grips better in every situation than es100's.

I have fm901's in 205-40-16 on my 94 cx. The car is pretty low too. The shoulder design is nice for lowered cars because it's not really wide. I used to rub when making u-turns on my BFG's, but with the Dunlops it's been smooth sailing since day 1 (2 years ago). Grip is really great, but I don't have much to compare too since I don't drive anybody elses cars like they were my own...
