Default Linear shifting solenoid problems

I recently found out that the auto honda civic transmissions had a faulty linear solenoid. I check my vin number to see if mine fit the description, but it didn't. It was shifting harsly for a while and now it just slips from a dead stop. I'm hoping honda will cover this for goodwill consideration. I go to school full time and work about 30 hours a week and i travel about 60-70 miles a day. I need this car to work. I have enough stress as it is and do not need to dump $4,000 into a $4,000 car. What are my odds honda will pay for the repairs to my transmission?
