Default lsvtec

as of right now, i am only in the beginning stages of research on this so-called "lsvtec" contemplation. just finished the i/im/h/e and now just chillin thinking about what to do next. i'm fairly aware of the risks involved with lsvtec i.e. detonation or blowing a cylinder wall. one of the largest risk factors that i've read is the inadequate rod ratios in the ls block. although the ratio is 1.54:1, most critics of the lsvtec hybrid suggest that higher revving will inevitably end in utter chaos within the block. however, if i were to set my rev limits to that no greater than 7000, or heaven forbid the stock 6750, could the block be able to handle it despite the mildly shorter rod length? in doing this, it is obvious that i wouldn't completely benefit from doing the swap, but i want to stay n/a. when i say "handle", i mean duration or reliability over a substantial period of time. i'd definitely use hondata or aem and ideally get the powerband in the midrange with a good tuner. although there is A LOT more than this concept alone on lsvtec, it would be helpful to here some input other than the articles listed in team-integra.net or here b/c nobody talks about a driver who will not push their car to the limit everyday. i know that hondas make power through rpms, but i dont push my car, only like to have that available power "when i need it". Finally, if anyone does respond to this thread, assume that i either (1) rebuild the block, use new rods, bolts, pistons or (2) leave the block alone only rebuilding the head, using different head studs, water pump, timing belt, the dowels ect ect ect

i'm not sure what your question is.

I myself have been researching ls/vtec for the past 5 months or so, and I'm looking at it as my "next step." I myself will use eagle h-beam rods, arp rod bolts, and arp head studs, hondata, tune to 8000, but limit myself to 7000. In my head, i can see that lasting for quite a while, as long as i keep treating it like an ls. I just think of it as a "breathing" upgrade over the insufficient ls head.

i left the question vague to invite anyone who has anything to say about lsvtec. but my main concern is the block. i really dont want to touch the block and i'm asking anybody if they think a stock block could handle vtec up to 7000 rpms.

clean car, silver integra-got the same, but i traded the mesh rims for some rota ciruit 8s

You can use stock internals but it wont LAST.........dont make us(LS/Vtec'ers) look bad by just putting on the head and revving over 6,000 rpms to tell everyone that LS/V don't last when you blow up you're motor. If you want it to "handle" e-mail me and ill let you know how to build up a LS/V to be reliable. If you still have the want to swap in the head w/o internal build good luck

Had a gsr oil pump and water pump but thats it. Rev'd to about 7800-8000 when hot rodding or racing it. Never had a problem at all. Call me lucky or whatever. Engine has been supercharged for a while and still rev to 8k with no problems. Now it's winter and I need more so its all apart. the head was just recently re-done with some more extra goodies and even though the bottom end is still in great shape I'm building it up too. Not much else to do during winter when its 8 degrees outside.
I'm not arguing the reliability issues but I do think if you don't take care of your motor it won't last. But something more high performance taking care of it is even more critical. And I do totally agree with you about upgrading internals. But if an engine is sound and its well maintained it will last you.

i think it will last too but it wont be that fast with stock ls pistons. and really the bottom end isnt that hard to rebuild or atleast new rod bolts.
