At what EGT or HP level ... do they start to become the "weakest link"?

BTW -- I was under the impression that the "R" pistons are indeed forged, and "D" concurred.
(but maybe he was just distracted because I was test driving his 98 ITR (with the newly installed JDM FD), through the "park".

Next time I'll have to use the big lobes!

 

no sir, they are cast as all stock hondas are ... except bike pistons.

i don't think they are.. hence the breaking of them under higher boost levels.. i could be wrong though.

Well, ... I guess if it's worth doing, then it's worth doing right.

 

an alternative for some meduim boost applications is cermaic coatings..

can help keep some of the heat out of the piston..but it is rec. to do valves and combustion chamber as well...as they are the next in line for melt down..

FYI, not all oem Honda auto pistons are cast; S2000 pistons are forged.

No appologies, ... I'd definately seen in print that someone said they were forged, but it might have been something like SSC or some editorial about an R.

About the loud pedal.
1) didn't want to disturb the "locals"
2) didn't want to make a poor impression on the owner by beating it from the get-go.

I can tell you that they are not forged.
And the weights of the pistons and rods are usually off a decent amount.

Proof that you can never believe anything you read.

JDM pistons are not forged, cause I just melted one with 8psi.

 

hmm... the article above where it says that they are forged is about the JDM spec R.

/me wondering how many cheaper parts the USDM R has in it
