K20a Engine in a Lotus Elise......
http://www.prototyperacing.com/k20kit.htm
I went to the LA Auto Show last night and actually saw this car, and met the engineer of it all. He has since added a Jackson Racing Supercharger to the car running 10.5 lbs of boost on STOCK INTERNALS... i checked out the setup for myself, and was very pessimistac of the setup becuase of the high compression of the engine. He said that it was made possible by the custom designed Inter-cooler on the car.
I have my doubts, but I did see it with my own eyes, and the engineer assured me that as long as you get the air cool enough there should be no problems.... so my question is this...
If you do have a fantastic cooling setup, can I boost my K20a on stock internals reliably.... ????
Thanks in advance for your input... i DO NOT want to get anywhere near 10.5 lbs of boost but hell... 5 lbs would just rock the pants off my car!

here is a vid of N/A lotus exige vs stock

& if you think that exige or a S/C elise was fast you are missing out

Oh man those videos are sick. The gray haired gentleman in the car about halfway through the video, is the man I spoke to at the auto-show. Im just very hesitant to get my hopes up of running the jrsc even at low boost in my engine when the compression is so high.
Thanks so much for those links though, that really blew me away. In case some of you dont know the Lotus Elise is now for sale in the US and retails low 43,000$ and fully loaded is 49,000$
That is up from the last 5 months... it was for sale 41,500$ loaded for 47,000$..... I have a feeling it will keep going up, but what car doesnt anymore

its too bad he didn't state he actually HAS a lotus and wants to boost a k20a in it, flamer. for all we know he could be putting this into an EG. calm the **** down
u could also try a boosted k20a2 which could handle a lot more boost and be a lot more reliable not to mention you'd have the choice of sc or snail.

runing 10.5psi isn't unheard of . alot of the cybernations stage 1 ppl are running 9psi street and 10-12 psi track on stock internals.
main upgade is the injectors and the fuel management.

Most importantly it turned Jeremy's face into pudding
The Exige is so beautifull. They'll probably bring it over, they just wanted to soak up the money first by bringing over the Elise...that way poeple want to upgrade.

uh...wth is the point of turbocharging the k20??that lotus already runs a 3.6 second 0-60 and an 8.7 second 0-100.....Turbocharging k20's is an ignorant thing to do unless u have a base model rsx or ep3...The Type S engine has so much potential that Honda gave tuner, turbocharging it is like throwing away a perfectly good gift

Are you high? I just finished installing a Cybernation stage 1 turbo kit on an RSX-S and the car hauls so much *** the stock tires can't hold traction past 7000 rpm at three-quarter throttle. It's on 7psi - wastegate limited - and with the Guardian that came with the kit it runs smoother than stock but with 50-70% more power.
Don't speak if you don't know **** about the topic. The K20A2 is a brilliant platform for forced induction and you're a moron if you think otherwise.

The motor was designed for NA, but it can be turboed. but how long will a turbo motor last. more power means more pressure on parts. I mean I love turbo vtec motors but from the factory it is a awesome motor.

I'm sorry i feel drag is ignorant for that reason, i would never run a turbo honda you simply can't outrun a NA honda on a road race track, the characteristics are to extreme between the 2 ways of tuning, sorry to offend any draggers but its got to be one of the most ignorant form of motorsports...NA>Turbo
Was this Elise the USDM one that came with the Celica motor, or was it the EDM one with the Rover motor?
I would think the USDM motor would be plenty good using the Celica motor and a Turbo (or Supercharger if they make 'em). It shouldn't be too hard to get a 2ZZGE (or whatever their called
) to maintain 220 Ft-lbs out to 8000 RPM to get that 340 HP figure, and it will save you a ton not doing all the custom fabbing and purchasing a one of the most overpriced engine brands.
Otherwise I think from what I've heard the Rover motor was not very good (weren't early Elises like 120HP or something??).

BTW, don't feel bad we all have different opinions. I think Highway racing is a perfectly good way of proving your cars worth....but some poeple get major butthurt if they can't start a race with a burnout.....maybe they need a better car so they can do a burnout in 3rd gear @ 60 MPH on the highway
2.9 seconds, thats ******* insane, omg i want an elise minus the motor.
thats just awesome, i also have to aggree that our k20's are made to be NA and the elise is also made to be NA
I LOVE NA
