Default JDM ITR rims with extended studs

I figured id post it here since most people here have 5 lugs.

I just recently got rims for my 5 lug conversion...JDM ITR rims, what kind of lug nuts can i use? i know i need open ended, but i hear running aftermarket lugs on OEM rims are unsafe.

Heres a pic of the parts:

Why is it unsafe to run aftermarket lug nuts with oem rims?

Different seating surface between most aftermarket lug nuts (Rays, Kyokugens, Zenkei, etc.) and oem rims. Tapered versus conical.

If you can find an open ended conical lug nuts, those will work perfect.

You could cut off the ends of your stock lugs. My friend did this once as a quick fix. Or I believe the gunmetal Spoon lug nuts work with stock wheels.

Tapered and conical are the same seats. Both are interchangeable terms. The other seat which you are probably thinking of are ball or spherical seats.

AFAIK, Honda/Acura uses ball/spherical seats for all their cars, while most aftermarket wheels come in taper/conical seats.

Your new, open lug nuts should have the same seating surface (rounded) as regular OEM Honda lug nuts.

You'll be fine until you run into one of those rare individuals you'll occasionally see at the track, which individuals think that extended lugs are inherently unsafe. But then if you go back to short ones, you'll run into those individuals who think the short ones are unsafe. LOL...

You won't be able to win that argument one way or the other, but at least if you're using OEM-like (rounded) lug nuts, at least that will be right.

I got a set from an Acura 2.2CL. Any Honda with unexposed lug nuts will have the open-ended lug nuts you need. Accord's, CL's, '96 Integra GS-R's, etc. etc. etc.

I have noticed tho that the '90-'93 Accord lug nuts are fully threaded, while the '94-'95 Accord EX and '97-'99 CL lug nuts lack a small bit of threading on the end. No big deal either way.

You need open ended ball seat lug nuts. You can order these from some JDM parts suppliers. I bought a set that are cadmium plated. I can't rember where I bought these, but I'll look for the receipt. These are the best ball seat lugs I have seen, and work perfectly with stock ITR wheels and extended wheel studs.

I found the receipt. Contact upgrademotoring.com, this is what you want: Lug - open end - 12X1.5mm - ball seat - small head. They are $2.50 per lug. My total bill for a quantity of 20 shipped was 58.90

Hope this helps
