There is plenty of info archived in this forum. Just sit back, search, and read away.

Honestly, read some books, play around some then take a course. My welding improved 200% after taking a course.

Practice is a good thing...but don't forget to pay attention to how heat changes and other things affect the weld. In other words, it's like driving through the city and keeping your eye on the road, versus driving through the country and enjoying the scenery. In this case, slow down and see the scenery. Pay attention to what you do, what works, what doesn't.
And another big tip...get a digital camera. post pics and ask for advice, or ask what the problems you're experiencing are caused by.

oh, and KEEP your tungsten sharp. Don't fight the weld with dull tungsten because you're too lazy to sharpen it again. It's much easier to sharpen it before it gets really bad...and your welds will be easier and look better. The big advantage of tig welding is the ability to FOCUS heat precisely where you want it. Dull tungsten destroys that ability.
