What's a good replacement for my Potenzas RE010 ??
Guys, I know this may have been discussed before but I couldn't find much info on a search. My Potenzas are ready to be retired and I am looking for a good replacement. I was looking at Falken Azenis and they look so sweet but are they good street tires ?? What about wet traction ?? I don't do much racing other than an ocassional trip to the drag strip with my friends but I do drive "spiritedly" and I do a lot of highway high speed cruising. I guess what I'd like to know is, should I just get a new set of Potenzas (which I really like), or is there a good alternative which will be better than, or just as good, as my Potenzas ?? I am in Puerto Rico so winter (snow) tires are not required
One last thing, whichever tires I decide upon, I will want them in 205/50/15 and they are going on my USDM ITR wheels.
Thanks !!

for regular street driving the Kumho 712's work EXCELLENT in rain and for the money are just damn hard to beat! Don't bother taking them to a road course unless you want to chunk the hell out of them tho ;-) - - - not that I've done that or anything!

www.tirerack.com I use Dunlop W10's and have gotten over 30k miles on them. Good in wet and dry and low priced.
I paid around $91/ea for my RE730's 205-50-15 (tirerack.com)
I liked them a lot, even did a weekend event with them, no chunking, still a good amount of tread left.

Screw the Azeni's, most people are out of them right now and slap you on a waiting list -- right now at TireRack.com you can get 195/50 15 SO3's for 76 bucks each -- and they have them in stock.

I paiud $63/corner for my Kumho 712s, drove to the Expo and back on them, daily drive them, just drove to Tucson, AZ and back, and they are still going strong. About 15k worth of mileage on them and they still have half tread. All you have to do is keep them at around 37psi front and 35psi rear and they'll give you good traction.
I drove the Malibu runs before the Expo on 712s, they did great. Work well as an autocross rain tire too.

You bought a Type R for the performance. Don't compromise that performance by using cheap crappy tires. Tires are NOT a good place to try to save money. You would be better off getting a lower-performance car and using really sticky tires on it.
Since you like the RE010's, why not just get another set of those?

SO-3's in my opinion are about the best performing full street tire you can get. Unbelievable grip in the wet or dry. One of the highest comsumer rated performance tires as well. Tirerack is also selling them in 195/50 for $78 bucks which is really hard to beat, especially when the SO-3 195 is actually wider than the RE010 195 and has almost no difference in height even though they are two different sizes. I went with a lower performing yet higher treadware tire on the R and it did not do it justice. In fact under hard driving the higher treadware tire wore out quicker than my RE010's. Just something to think about.
